Days 4-5: Aswan

A comfortable sleeper train takes us to Aswan. This Nubian city is Egypt’s southern gateway to Africa and an important market town - take time here to check out one of the country’s best bazaars and take an optional extension to visit Abu Simbel.

Days 6-7: Nubian Homestay/

Nile Felucca

Experience Nubian village culture first hand at a homestay. Drift along the Nile on a traditional felucca sailboat and take in the sights of rural riverside life. Enjoy meals prepared on board before falling asleep under the stars.

Days 8-10: Luxor

Situated on the banks of the Nile, Luxor was once the ancient Egyptian capital of Thebes. From the spectacular temple complex of Karnak to the unbelievable paintings and hieroglyphs in the tombs of the Valley of the Kings, this open-air museum is full of wonderfully preserved reminders of the Pharaohs.

Whilst in Luxor take a donkey ride to the Valley of the Kings, explore Karnak and meet members of the Animal Care Project, dedicated to improving the lives of Egypt’s working animals.

Day 11: Cairo

Back in the capital, enjoy a guided walk through Islamic Cairo and bargain up a storm in the labyrinthine Khan al-Khalili.

Day 12: Mt Sinai

Mt Sinai is where Muslims, Jews and Christians collectively believe that the Ten Commandments were revealed to the prophet Moses. Whatever your beliefs, climbing to the top by foot or camel is sure to move you and the summit provides perfect panoramic desert views. At the foot of Mt Sinai is the Greek Orthodox monastery of St Katherine, built around the burning bush that spoke to Moses. A site of Christian pilgrimage since the 4th century, it is the oldest Christian monastery in continuous existence.

Days 13-14: Red Sea Beach

Camp

We travel from Mt. Sinai to Nuweiba. This is a harsh and barren land of sprawling windswept plains and rugged mountains, but thankfully it is also home to some fantastic beaches. The Red Sea coast is justifiably famous for its beautiful scenery both above and below the water. Why not start the day with a fantastic snorkelling trip to discover this spectacular world? There is also time to make an optional scuba dive

on nearby reefs. Later relax on the golden sands watching the mountains of Saudi Arabia light up at sunset, and finish the day chatting with our Bedouin friends over a delicious freshly squeezed fruit juice.

Days 15: Cairo

Cross the famous Suez Canal on return to Cairo. An optional farewell dinner offers one last taste of local
