4. Apply a second coat of Omni-Gel over the first, working across the image,
and perpendicular to the first coat. Let dry.
5. Apply a third coat of Omni-Gel to the image, this time working diagonally
across the image. Note: The instructions on the product indicate that three thin
layers are sufficient. In working with Omni-Gel I have found that five thin layers
were not enough on my photocopied paper, so I would recommend 6-8 layers.
6. Trim the image close to but bigger than the desired finished size. Allow
yourself room to hold onto the image if you are going to use a punch to cut out
the image for final application. The idea here is to not have your working area
any larger than necessary.
7. Place the image in a bowl of warm water, image side up and paper side down,
for approximately 10 minutes.
8. Remove the image from the water and lay it face down on a flat surface such
as a plate or tray. Rub the back of the image with your finger to remove the
paper from the dried layers of Omni-Gel. Continue to do this until all of the
paper is removed. Keeping the paper wet makes removing the paper easier. If it
begins to dry, the paper will stop rubbing off. As it dries, you will see whether
or not there are still paper fibers remaining.
9. Allow the image to dry flat. Note: Be sure to turn the image over so the side that
had the paper is the side sitting against the flat surface. Check it after 15 minutes
or so to be sure it is not sticking to the drying surface.
10. When dry, you can cut or punch the desired size and shape. If covering an
entire surface, as I’ve done here, no additional trimming is necessary.
11. use a paint brush and Omni-Gel to glue the image onto the desired surface
by applying Omni-Gel to the side of the image that had been paper and
positioning it where desired.
12. Press firmly to eliminate air bubbles and be cautious to avoid fingerprint
impressions. Let dry.
13. Trim any excess Omni-Gel with sharp scissors if necessary.
