Going Places by Erin Prais-hintz
1 Cut a piece of a map to fit a bezel cup charm. use
some Mod Podge or craft glue to lightly glue the map
to the bezel cup. Let dry.
2 When the paper has dried thoroughly, fill the bezel
cup with Gel du soleil. Place the bezel cup under
a uV lamp or in direct sunlight for 20 minutes,
following the manufacturer’s instructions.
3 Clean galvanized steel wire with steel wool. (Note:
Steel wire can rust. If that is not a look that you like,
you can choose to seal the wire with Renaissance Wax or
similar sealant, or use a different type of wire.) using
cut lengths of the 26 gauge galvanized steel wire,
create a wire wrapped chain of buttons, tokens, and
beads adding some crystals, pearls, and other beads
as embellishments.
4 stamp a brass beavertail charm with the word
“Journey.”
5 Create a wrapped hook using 19 gauge galvanized
steel wire. hammer the wire flat to add texture and
to work harden the wire.
6 using a jumpring, connect the token at the end
of the design to a length of chain from a piece of
recycled jewelry. Connect the hook created in step 6
to the other end of the chain.
“This piece was inspired by a summer solo
road trip that I took to Galena, IL to visit the
wonderful ladies at Vintaj. somewhere along
the way, I took a wrong turn and ended up in
Dubuque, IA – that was part of the fun! When
I finally got to Galena, there was an old-world
charm to the place with antiques and quaint
stores and old Victorian homes. I could picture
a time gone by where trains might carry visitors
to this lovely place as a special destination. Gone
are the days when we traveled by steam train,
but that steam train button was the first one I
thought to use. sometimes the journey takes you
on a detour (sometimes to Dubuque!), but it is
always an adventure no matter where you go or
where you end up.”
