VFW honors speech contest winner!
Jessica Halderman, a senior at the Anza Valley Christian School, was honored at VFW Post 1873 on January 20 as the local winner of the “Voice of Democracy” Speech Contest.
Post Commander Lenton Garrison presented
Halderman with a certificate of recognition and a check for $100 to go towards her further education. Her essay was entitled “Is There Pride in Serving in Our Military?”
“When Jessica read her essay, she hit it right on the mark,” Garrison said, via email. “It was good to see so many veterans and their families with quivering lips and watery eyes.”
VFW Post 1873 hosts the speech contest annually, as part of a nationwide competition.
