Youth Ministry Targeted for Jr. High and High School

students, an important youth ministry at TLC is [re]Generation. This group’s mission is to teach the youth in the community about who Jesus is, what He has done for them and the abundance of love and mercy he has for the high school student. They meet on Wednesday nights from 6- 8pm at the church, and under qualified su- pervision, members hang-out, fellowship, eat, play, worship through music, study God’s word and wrestle through tough texts in the scriptures. With the strong heart for youth that

was instrumental to his work in ministry, and saddened by what he sees as a decline in youth membership in churches in San Clemente due to scholasticism, Pastor Pondo remarked, “So many young people are turned off to ‘church’ today.” And in his support of

Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Sunday Night Live where they have hosted hundreds of high school students who are now showing a desire to know God, he continued, “We don’t want to preach to young people, we just want to bring the youth in the community together to have fun, fellowship and dis- cuss whatever might be on their minds. We are offering an environment where they can ask any question and have discussions in a safe and confidential environment. We aren’t here to judge, just to listen and to let them know we care and are here for them.” TLC Pastor Christine Digicaomo has

also been an incredible light to the youth in San Clemente and he heads up the Sun- day Night Live Program at SCHS.

Psalm 145:10, “All Your works shall praise You, O Lord, and Your saints shall bless You.” As a worshipping church, music plays

a major part in TLC’s services and events. Led by Christian vocalist and artist Debbie Owens, the worship team is composed entirely of high school students. The group plays contemporary Christian music with influences like Chris Tomlin, Hillsong, Jesus Culture, Shane & Shane and others. Many of the musicians currently play in high school bands, while some have gone on to college where they are continuing their musical in- volvement.

Adult Ministry Although there is a strong

focus on youth at TLC, that’s not all that is happening there. The appropriate adult ministries, including men’s and women’s Bible studies, small groups, missions, com- munity outreach, prayer groups, and oth- ers, are also alive and functioning well. The Men’s Ministry meets on Monday

nights for “bring your own dinner” at 6 pm, followed by study from 6:30-7:30pm. With a motto of “Real Faith for Real Life,” the group reads scripture and conducts discussions along with question/answer sessions. Men from 20-80 participate and all are invited. The Women’s Ministry is presently studying the book of Acts using the Joy of

every year during the holidays,” said Vlei- sides. “About this time of year we ask our members, youths and adults, to let us know of anyone who might need help. We not only feed them, we try to assist them in any area they might need help.”

Missions Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of

the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have com- manded you and surely I am with you even until the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19, 20.

One of the

church’s current mis- sionary projects is “Bot- tles for Babies” in Cambodia. This is an outreach through Over- seas Crusade Interna- tional. OCCI supports over 250 missionaries in 50 countries, and TLC is involved with them in various other

missionary endeavors as well. With community building their contin-

ual focus, TLC opens its doors for school events, weddings, concerts and birthday parties, as well as many other village and neighborhood activities. “Small but mighty,” are words that

come to mind when observing the purpos- ing of the congregation at Talega Life Church. And it’s easy to see that cultivating community is definitely what this group of believers is consistently all about.b

Living Women’s bible study. This ministry offers three opportunities weekly, Monday evening 6-7:30 pm, Wednesday morning 9:15-11am (childcare available on request), and Wednesday afternoon 1-3 pm (led by Marlene Vleisides).

Care-a-van In keeping with Matthew 25:35 “I was

hungry and you fed me,” one of the very important ministries at TLC is Care-a-van. This ministry feeds needy families every Saturday. Armed with donations from Sec- ond Harvest Food Bank, Family Assistance Ministries, Albertsons, and Trader Joes, con- gregants fill the church van with supplies and distribute food to HUD housing devel- opments, local hotels for the homeless and to “day” workers outside the Rite Aid in
