SPECIAL REPORT Tactical Firearms & Optics l Ruger Precision Rifl e
W THE RUGER RPR TEAMED WITH THE NIGHTFORCE NXS SCOPE IS A MATCH MADE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT LONG-RANGE PRECISION USE.
Ruger’s AR-style pistol grip feels familiar and the re- versible AR-style safety has a short 45-degree throw. T e AR pistol grip aligns your index fi nger at the proper angle for superior trigger control. For police offi cers familiar with the AR-15 style of semi-automatic rifl e, this bolt-action system provides some commonality of operation when it comes to grip and manipulation of the manual safety. T e Modular Sniper Rifl e (MSR) polymer stock has Ruger’s name molded right into the sides. T e entire stock folds to the left for compact storage in a squad car, but it locks straight for accuracy with no wiggle. T is feature also means that withdrawing the bolt to clean the rifl e is as simple as it gets.
forgings secured together. T e Ruger eagle logo is attractively scored into the left side of the frame at a tilted angle. T e lines of the rifl e are angular and attractive and purposefully built for strength. Each rifl e comes with two 10-round Magpul 308 Win magazines; however, the magazine well is designed to also accept M110, SR- 25, and DPMS magazines. T e magazine release is an ambidextrous paddle located behind the magazine. Insertion and removal of the polymer Magpul magazine was intuitive and readily functional from behind the rifl e. T e upper receiver is precision machined from 4140-chrome moly steel, as is the one-piece bolt. T e three-lug bolt has dual cock- ing cams and a short, 70-degree bolt throw. T e Ruger Marksman Adjustable® trigger features a safety blade in the middle and it is adjustable from fi ve pounds all the way down to 2.25 pounds. A wrench to accomplish this task is stored inside the bolt’s shroud. As it came from the factory, the RPR’s trigger measured a crisp 2.5 pounds on a Lyman digital trigger pull gauge. No further adjustment was found necessary.
S WINCHESTER .308 MATCHKING 168-GRAIN AMMUNITION RESULTED IN THIS THREE-SHOT GROUP FIRED AT 200 YARDS. SUB HALF-MOA ACCURACY AT A VERY REASONABLE COST.
T e length of pull and cheek piece height (comb) and distance to the scope are totally adjustable by the use of knobs and cam levers. T ese adjustment devices can even be swapped over for left-hand operation. T e cant of the soft, recoil-absorbent butt pad is adjust- able 9 degrees to the right or left if needed. T ere are also three QD sling swivel points on the stock to allow your choice of mounting
