nnounced at the 2015 SHOT Show, the PhaZZer Raptor™ is designed to repli- cate nearly every feature and function of the AR-15 platform family of patrol rifl es. This similarity includes the trigger pull and trigger reset, balance and natural point of aim, and reloading and fi eld stripping proce- dures. The PhaZZer Raptor semi-automatic air carbine has an effective range of around 150 feet (50 yards), providing a long-distance, less-lethal option.
High-end Launcher Both generations of PhaZZer launchers have been based on the very high-end paint- ball markers. T e fi rst-generation PhaZZer EqualiZZer was based on a Tiberius air launcher. T is second-generation PhaZZer Raptor is based on the RAP4 Professional Training Rifl e (PTR). T e PTR is in turn based on the RAP4 T68 air rifl e. Since 2006, the T68 has gone through seven generations of product improvements. T e 8th Gen launcher from RAP4 was
so diff erent that it was renamed the 468. Introduced in 2012, the 468 had an im- proved ease of maintenance and a realistic look, handling, and function made it in- stantly popular on paintball fi elds around the world, along with law enforcement. T e 468 was then upgraded to the true AR-15 platform PTR (Professional Training Rifl e). T e PhaZZer Raptor is based on this PTR, one of the latest compressed-air powered, force-on-force and MilSim training rifl es. T e average muzzle velocity from HPA-powered projectiles is 350 fps. T ese can be delivered eff ectively up to 150 feet away.
Lok-Bolt Solution T e Raptor has the same feel of an AR-15, and actually has tighter tolerances and better machining than many generic AR-15 plat- form rifl es. T e Raptor uses an open bolt, blow back action.
One of the problems with any magazine- fed launcher is ‘projectile chop,’ where the bolt strikes and breaks the projectile inside the breech. T is is most often caused by par- tially seated projectiles. T e Lok-Bolt™ solu- tion is one of the most innovative designs in the industry. It provides a mechanical solu- tion to overcome the ‘chop’ phenomenon.
S THE PHAZZER RAPTOR FIRES A WIDE VARIETY OF PROJECTILES AND HAS A RANGE OF 50 YARDS.
First introduced as an upgrade for the RAP4 T68, the Lok-Bolt acts as a mechani- cal gatekeeper, only allowing the bolt to move forward when a ball is completely chambered. This eliminates chops from partially fed paintballs. In our 100 rounds of testing, we had no stoppage, no projectile breaks. Heads-up…the Lok-Bolt requires 80 per- cent of the bolt’s travel to activate, but the
bolt may only travel 70 percent with low air pressure. Don’t fi re the PhaZZer Raptor past the point that it recocks itself, even though you can still manually charge the launcher for about fi ve more shots. Just like the AR- 15, if the Raptor fails to fi re, running the charging handle gets it back in action. T is stoppage could be several things but prob- ably means the Lok-Bolt is operational.
