UP CLOSE Tactical Firearms & Optics l PhaZZer Raptor Less-Lethal Launcher
Fires Any .68-caliber Projectile
The PhaZZer Raptor semi-auto launcher can fire any .68-caliber PepperBall®, paintball, rubber, OC, PAVA, mark- ing, impact or glass shattering projectile. However, it was specifically designed to shoot the .68-caliber RAP4 Peppershot™. Peppershot projectiles are hard plastic
spheres, filled with PAVA, and designed to burst on impact. PAVA (Pelargonic Acid VAnillylamide) is an organic com- pound (capsaicinoid) present in chili pep- pers. This PAVA dust-like powder is often referred to as Capsaicin II pepper. Pep- pershot rounds are filled with 10 times the standard amount of irritant. Standard OC or PAVA rounds may have 0.5 percent ac- tive agent, while the Peppershot rounds have 5.0 percent PAVA.
Peppershot rounds are ideal for riot situations where officers need to create an intense barrier cloud of extremely hot pepper irritant. They are highly effective for safely dislodging barricaded suspects by filling enclosed spaces with an insuf- ferable cloud of irritant powder, and fill many other less-lethal roles as well. Even when the suspect is facing away, the of- ficer can shoot into a wall or object in front of the suspect, leaving the suspect facing—or running into—a barely visible cloud of irritation powder.
By increasing the rounds’ effectiveness 10-fold, the Peppershot rounds minimize the need to shoot multiple rounds. This means more tactical payload per maga- zine for fewer magazine changes and fewer overall shots downrange. This improves officer safety, and decreases the total re- quired number of shots for both liability and supply reasons.
3000psi Refi llable HPA Tank The Raptor is powered by a refillable, high-pressure air (HPA)/CO2 canister. The 13ci 3000psi high-pressure alumi- num tank can be filled with carbon diox- ide or high-pressure air (HPA). We used HPA. The Raptor comes with this refill- able cylinder that fits inside a 10-way ad- justable, collapsible buttstock. This air system allows agencies to use compressed air that most agencies already have at their station or at their local fire station. This system makes it easy for

agencies to gain access to air and not have to pay ongoing operation costs for dispos- able cylinders. This air system makes it easy for de- partments to train. It has a built-in refill valve that can be attached to refill the cyl- inder without having to remove it from the launcher. Simply attach a remote line directly to the refill adaptor while having the air tank inside the buttstock. You can use both the air in the stock and a remote
line as backup. This configuration allows the agencies to train continuously without downtime and it allows more trainees to pass through the training lane. With the 13ci 3000 psi tank filled anywhere from 2500 psi to 2800 psi, the Raptor should fire between 100 and 125 projectiles. We got exactly 100 rounds, with no manual recocks, from the ap- proximately 2750 psi fill. That is five fully loaded magazines.
