From the Field: Dover (Del.) Chapter The Dover Chapter (www.moaa.org/ chapter/dover) awarded four area Junior ROTC (JROTC) senior cadets $1,500 college scholarships at its May 21 meeting. The scholarship recipients


are cadets Taijay Blagrove, Peninah Kimani, Griffin Ott, and Lucas Zlock. The chapter supports four high school JROTC programs in Kent County by presenting MOAA JROTC medals and certificates each May. Scholarships are funded by donations from chapter members, friends, and community businesses.


Sarasota (Fla.) Chapter The Sarasota Chapter (www.sara sotamoaa.com) recently awarded $2,000 scholarships to local students Kathryn Beck, Aravind Byju, Keaton Clark, Cassandra Golembeski, Vada Hammons, Robert Hodgson, and Da- kota Stoble. Chapter president and former Navy Lt. George Tracy, with the help of Bill Church, ex- ecutive editor of the Sarasota Herald Tri- bune, presented the scholarship awards during a luncheon.

The chapter offers merit-based scholarships and scholarships for Junior ROTC cadets and returning veterans. This year, 17 high school stu- dents applied.


Virginia Council of Chapters The Virginia Council of Chapters (VCOC) (www.virginiamoaa.com) hosted its 31st annual Congressional Appreciation Luncheon May 18 in Washington, D.C. Ten members of the Virginia con-


gressional delegation discussed key state and national defense-related leg- islative issues with leaders represent- ing 16 Virginia chapters. The VCOC recognized Rep. Robert


Hurt (R-Va.) with its annual legisla- tive award for his faithful support and loyal service regarding veterans’ and military compensation and ben- efits legislation.


Col. Brian Anderson, USAF (Ret), deputy director, Council and Chap- ter Affairs, received the Minuteman Award for outstanding support and loyal service to VCOC members in the past year.
