AI OOPS: FALSE GUN ALERT St. John Fisher University
was locked down for 15 minutes after artificial intelligence technology detected what it perceived to be firearms on campus. The Monroe County
Sheriff ’s Of ice, along with the university’s safety and security team, responded to the system’s alert. As it turns out, the firearms were just prop guns used for a theater rehearsal. Many schools and
universities throughout the
United States have turned to AI to detect weapons in the area. When brandished weapons appear on video feeds, artificial intelligence alerts authorities. AI technology can detect
weapons in a parking lot and can even be deployed to help identify shooters and the type of weapons in use.

The mayor of
Wethersfield, Ken Lesser, announced the town will review its flag policy after the town council
voted not to fly the thin blue line flag to
commemorate a GARTEN
state trooper who was killed in a hit-and-run accident.
The council had voted 5-3
not to fly the flag, citing the rule that there needed to be a 30-day notice for a request to be considered. Debbie Garten, the
OHIO Anti-Biden Tag Ban A man from Licking County has filed a federal
lawsuit against the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, alleging the agency violated his First and 14th Amendment rights when they rejected his bid to have “F46 LGB” on a personalized license plate. Jeff rey Wonser says that he suff ered emotional
and economic damages as a result, and he would like a judge to declare their screening procedures unconstitutional. The license plate could mean “F*** the 46th president” and
“Let’s go, Brandon.” It could also be a reference to the LGBT community. Wonser’s lawyer refused to elaborate on the meaning.

MANDATORY PLEDGE Mount Airy’s Twin Ridge Elementary School reversed its mandatory Pledge of Allegiance policy after pressure from the
Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression
(FIRE). The school’s April
directive required all students and staff to participate in the pledge, sparking controversy. Stephanie Jablonsky,
a FIRE of icer, stated, “Mandatory patriotism is no patriotism at all.” Following the backlash, the school acknowledged on May 31 that participation in the pledge is now optional.
PENNSYLVANIA
‘NON-SANCTUARY’ AREA East Hempfield Township’s
Board of Supervisors passed a contentious resolution declaring the township a “non-sanctuary” area to “protect residents and businesses from illegal immigration.” The resolution mandates
cooperation with state and federal authorities on immigration matters, citing the strain on public resources caused by migrants. Supervisor W. Scott
Wiglesworth said: “Working with federal authorities is crucial. This resolution supports our police.” The board hopes to
inspire other Lancaster County municipalities to adopt similar policies.
