IRIS PRIZE – news and updates
Big news from Iris this month, as two of our films were shown at the prestigious Roze Filmdagen festival in Amsterdam. Not that Iris is big- headed at all, but this this was an incredible achievement, and one which we as a team are incredibly proud of.
Roze Filmdagen has been a partner festival to Iris since the very beginning, and this year they chose to screen our Iris In The Community film I Shall Be Whiter Than Snow [pictured], directed by Frederick Stacey. Created with the help of the National Lottery Community Fund, it’s the true story of a lesbian couple, Kim and Roseann, who were married at Velindre Hospital, Cardiff in 2018 whilst Kim was receiving treatment for cancer.
Also featured in Amsterdam was Cardiff: a film made by Sarah Smith (who won the international Iris Prize supported by the Michael Bishop Foundation in 2019), featuring the last ever screen performance of the late great Welsh legend, Ruth Madoc.
Our Iris On The Move annual roadtrip came to an end at the beginning of March and we would like to thank everyone who came to see us and our films. We had some great feedback too, so diolch o galon. You can stay in touch with the festival by becoming a member – unless you already are. On Sat 1 Apr we launch our new digital Iris Prize Membership Card: for just £25, members will receive exclusive benefits and perks, including free entry to special events throughout the year.
We are also still taking submissions for the 2023 Iris Prize – visit
irisprize.org for more details on submissions and membership. Hwyl am y tro.
