Disruption is fairly common in supply chains. Last year, the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) published its latest report on supply chain resilience1


, which documented how over half


the fi rms surveyed had experienced at least one interruption in their supply chain in the previous 12 months. Supply chain disruptions are frequently making headline news. Just last month, BBC News reported how one of the world’s biggest aluminium producers had to switch to manual operations at some smelting plants following a ‘severe’ ransomware attack. Hydro, which employs more than 35,000 people in 40 countries, was forced to halt production, with many of the digital systems at their main smelting plants needing to be turned off, affecting factories and metal extrusion plants across the globe.
