FOCUS Emergency response

improved efficiency for ESFRS, while retaining control and collaborative direction, and gaining an all encompassing view of ICT activity. To meet ESFRS’s immediate need, existing applications were adopted with telent provided support services, ensuring that it could meet high levels of service. Technical design authorities created a roadmap to identify opportunities within existing technologies, which would help minimise any risk or disruption. A key element of the roadmap was upgrading the security infrastructure to provide a platform for telent to work closely with ESFRS to assist in its readiness for the adoption of the new network. Using telent’s in house technical expertise

and long term technology partner relationships, ESFRS is now upgrading its customer relationship management (CRM) software to enable automation of paper based processes for business and community safety visits and improve digital workflows. In addition, ESFRS is working to upgrade the

infrastructure that hosts Firewatch enterprise resource planning. This is an essential system that connects prevention, resource planning and response to provide a complete picture of ESFRS operations. Furthermore, the solution supports the human resources, retained pay and resource management systems.

ESFRS continues to explore tools to enhance

the services that it provides to the community. A new performance management solution, for example, will soon be implemented to automate a range of operational reporting against FRS targets.

Operational efficiency

This digital transformation project began in September 2016 and the results have been impressive. A cloud based virtual infrastructure has been installed which has helped increase the fire service’s mobility, performance, availability and resilience. Crucially, this also supported ESFRS in a challenging yet critical move of its headquarters from Eastbourne to Lewes. Dawn Whittaker, chief fire officer and

chief executive officer of ESFRS, commented: ‘After telent were engaged to undertake the maintenance and support of our technology estate, and after a period of stabilisation, we have seen a significant reduction in IT incidents logged and a pleasing increase in reliability, with telent continuing to successfully deliver against their SLAs [service level agreements].’
