Black Lives Matter: Let’s Talk about Race Date: Wednesday 19 August 2020 at 15:00

Presenter: Dr Sharon Bond. Facilitated by Dr Nigel Jacobs. Eligibility: AFT Members only.

Limited availability – please book early to avoid disappointment Cost: Free to AFT Members.

Sharon writes:

Systemic psychotherapist Ruth Erskine says talking about race can be a “conversation stopper”. In this webinar Nigel and I would like to invite you to join with us in a conversation about race – in our lives, thoughts and practice as family therapists.

What do those words “let’s talk about race” do to

you? What emotions do they evoke? Where do you feel them in your body? What actions do they invite? What discourses do you find yourself drawing on to enable you to enter into or stay out of conversations about race with your clients/colleagues/family and friends?

The Black Lives Matter Movement has gathered momentum in the 7 years since its inception and as a result it have given us opportunities to think about and reflect upon our responsibilities in creating our social worlds. We hope you will see this as an opportunity to voice your thinking and your thoughts about race and racism in your lives.
