members leave the commit ee such as Gary Robinson and Michael Napthine or step back temporarily as our joint chair Julie Barber has needed to do, we have also welcomed new members to the commit ee this year such as Julie Hamisi, Nicola Herring and Karen Daniel. T is reminds me of the parallel between the development of systemic thinking and how it is important to remember our history, the diff erent infl uences and how the branch is continuing to evolve. One example of how it is evolving is the move towards using

diff erent forms of technology to support our events such as using eventbrite for booking places at our conferences and using electronic passes to enter the university as security has increased. Please look out for future events which will be in Context, on our website ht ps:// derbyshireaſt .wordpress.com/ and through our email, and if you book a place at an event remember to check your email for your e-ticket! It is always great to see familiar faces at diff erent events but also welcome new people to our events with our circulation list having over 500 members. If anyone would like to be added to the circulation list or has any questions about any of our events then please email derbyshireaſt @gmail.com. Kath Williamson has done a fantastic job of organising conferences in her role as event organiser. I never realised how much work went on behind the scenes of organising conferences so honestly she deserves a medal! I am also very grateful for Lesley Novelle for providing support and liaising with the University of Derby whilst also fulfi lling her treasurer duties. Montse Presedo has also stepped up to be sole chair for the commit ee with her enthusiasm and commitment to the role really helping to amalgamate DAFT. T is year was heading towards being another successful year

for us before the corona virus pandemic hit which has meant that we have had to postpone some of our events. However, prior to lockdown we were able to run a range of workshops and conferences. Since July 2019 our branch workshops have included Christian Elliot ’s, Helen Dunning and Ben Squires experiential workshop on non-violent resistance parenting groups which included feedback from parents. T is workshop fi ts with the emphasis within DAFT of collaborating with experts by experience so a special thank you to the parents for sharing their experiences. In September 2019 Laura Hayward, Tim Siggs and myself shared our experiences of facilitating refl ective practice/ support/supervision groups for staff . Montse Presedo spoke about her experiences of supporting families of adult substance misuse clients in rural areas which included implementing community rehabilitation and family training in December 2019. Jeanet e T omson and myself then facilitated an experiential workshop on self-care for professionals, which given the current climate which we fi nd ourselves in seems even more important to consider. We are currently in the process of trialling a workshop remotely with just the commit ee members which will explore their experiences of working online delivering teaching and systemic practice with service users and families. Hopefully in September we will be able to off er a workshop remotely in which recent family therapy graduates from the masters course will share their research. Clay Frake has also off ered a workshop on systemic approaches to bereavement and loss in December 2020, which hopefully we will know nearer the time how this may be off ered. We will be planning our 2021 events towards the end of the year so that we are able to advertise them through our email distribution list, on our website and through AFT. In November 2019 Amanda Middleton provided a really interesting one-day workshop on working alongside trans, non-

binary and gender questioning people, their partners and families: A systemic approach. T is was a really fantastic opportunity to learn more about how to work alongside this population and explore discourses and support trans people, their families and communities and ourselves in therapeutic work. T e DAFT community has always supported and appreciated many diff erent facilitators and has welcomed people from all areas in sharing learning and connection with this event reminding us of the importance of being respectful, curious and mindful about the positions which we adopt. I suspect that the pandemic may infl uence both the planning and

delivery of our conference but also potential topics for future events. As a commit ee, we are making adjustments and have continued to connect on a regular basis, albeit remotely, which has enabled us to stay connected, do things that make us feel good (i.e. share our interests), remain curious, and care for ourselves and others, which is important in calming our overwhelmed system (Jaak Panksepp’s work on emotional systems). Given the current context I hope that we continue to fi nd ways to tap into these diff erent systems and connect with each other. In last year’s report Gary Robinson considered DAFT the

most prolifi c AFT branch in the country with four branch workshops and two day-conferences a year. Although we have had to postpone some events this year we are continuing to work in partnership with Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, the University of Derby and AFT, and with the support of the commit ee and DAFT community hope to facilitate further events in the foreseeable future. T e founding members created something really special and it is a privilege to be part of such a supportive systemic community which values diversity, the sharing of ideas, multiple perspectives and collaborating with experts by experience. T e pandemic may have disrupted existing systems but DAFT will continue to evolve whilst maintaining its values due to the support of this community, and the commitment, talent and enthusiasm of the varied collection of people who have contributed to its identity and continue to do so.
