AFT in the media T ere continues to be a lot of networking with journalists


• Twit er feed increased from 275 to 600 • AFT was in the media 15 times in the last year including: T e Guardian, T e Daily Mail, T e Huffi ngton Post, T e Telegraph, Parenting Blog, T e Sunday Times, Net doctor, Yahoo.com, BBC Radio, Channel 5, BBC3.


Current issues


• Website – Developing an exciting new website with CPD opportunities for all the categories of members, to include webinars and podcasts.


• Branches – Our branches have been very active this year. An update has been provided in Context. We are still exploring the charitable status of the branches, whilst maintaining the name ‘branches’.


• Conferences – next year – symposium in May in Bristol and Manchester is looking to welcome us there again in September.


• AFT Award – We are looking more into how we might recognise outstanding members who have made outstanding contributions to the fi eld. Reenee gave praise to Jacqui Sayers, a retiring member of


the board, who would be stepping down as of today. Jacqui was presented with cards and a giſt voucher as a thank you for all her hard work and commitment to AFT over the years.


Item 7: To receive and adopt annual reports from chairs of committees T e reports had been printed in the August 2019 issue of Context


on page 61. Chairs of commit ees who were present at the meeting were invited to say a few words about their commit ee. Gary Robinson, chair of the registration commit ee, wanted to


say thank you to Melanie Wood all her work with registration mat ers. He also wanted to express his gratitude to a few members that had leſt the commit ee, Kyla McKillop and Sue Jones, plus a thank you to Gill Wallace for all her help and Judith Lask for covering when there had been no chair present. He mentioned the commit ee were currently looking to fi ll vacancies and would like to hear from any new members who would be interested in joining. Likewise, Pat Gray, chair of the DEI commit ee, said she was also


looking for members and asked if this could be advertised in a future issue of Context. Melissa Adams, chair of the professional aff airs commit ee,


thanked Suzanne O’Connor for all the support she had provided since Sue Kennedy had leſt AFT. T e reports from the chairs of commit ees, as printed in Context


were approved.


Item 8: To receive and adopt the report on the Journal of Family Therapy Philip Messent, Journal Editor, had writ en a report for the


August 2019 issue of Context and this could be found on page 66. Philip said the Journal of Family T erapy is an international journal with submissions from all over the world and also from local writers; Philip is in his second year as journal editor. Philip mentioned the impact of the recent ‘systemic practice


in social care’ edition of the Journal, how this connected with individuals and their practice, and had inspired people to feel that they too could write for the Journal. Philip is looking to broaden the group doing peer reviews for the Journal, and asked

anyone interested to contact him with details of their areas of specialism and expertise in research methods. T ere would soon be a special, virtual edition of Family Process and the Journal of Family T erapy’s ‘greatest hits’, which encompasses some 25 articles dating back to 1980, and Philip will keep members posted of a ‘go live’ date. Philip’s report was adopted unanimously.


Shan Tate and Amy Urry had been asked to speak about the


‘training review group’ which had been formed by the board. T e intention of this working group was to review current standards and development, and work alongside the ‘creating opportunities group’. Shan said to look out for further reports on both groups which would be printed in upcoming issues of Context. T ere are currently two documents which are very much in


draſt at the moment; APEL (students with no prior professional qualifi cation) and course portfolios. T ere had been a lot of feedback received already, and important links were now being formed with CONFET I, CRED and regulation. T e next steps were to consider the implications of these documents and how they will aff ect our AFT members. Shan asked if anyone would be interested in providing feedback, to make contact with her.


Item 9: To receive nomination forms for the board of directors and trustees AFT had received three valid nomination forms from the


following individuals: Rav Khela Nigel Jacobs Barbara McKay T ere is currently one place available for director/trustee and


two places for co-option. Rav, an existing, co-opted member, had put herself forward to be a full member of the board and this had been seconded by Jacqui Sayers. Nigel’s term of offi ce had come to an end and a request had been received for him to be re- elected, this had been seconded by Rav Khela. Both nominations were approved by all those present and both would serve on the Board for a further three-year term of offi ce. Barbara McKay had put herself forward as a co-opted member of the board, seconded by Melissa Adams. All present were in favour and Barbara was duly co-opted to the board for a period of one year.


Item 10: To appoint the AFT treasurer Susan Benbow has off ered to continue in her role as treasurer


and all were in favour of this. Approved by those present – no votes against.


Item 11: To debate resolutions T ere were no formal items received and no resolutions


discussed.


Item 12: Any other business T ere was no other business.


Item 13: Date of 2020 AGM T e next AFT AGM will take place on 18 September 2020 at


1.30pm at the Renaissance Hotel, Manchester. T e meeting was closed at 7pm.
