AFT news New website At the AFT offi ce, we have been working hard, for months

now, on our new website. We hope to launch it by the middle of September. It is a mammoth task to transfer all the rich material we have on our current website to the new one, so this will have to done in stages. Although the new website will go live by this date, please do bear with us if you cannot access all the information you need. For those of you who pay for membership subscriptions by direct debit, we are moving to an online payment system at that time. You will be provided with a link to renew your membership and we will do our best to ensure that this is a simple and easy process. We will send our regular updates about the progress of our new website, so watch this space! Please note that there will be no AFT Directory of Family

and Systemic Psychotherapists when the new AFT website is launched. For those of you who are registered with UKCP, remember that included in your membership is a listing on the Find a Therapist page of the UKCP website. Please do ensure your UKCP profi le is up to date and active if you wish to be contacted by members of the public. The UKCP ‘How to guide’ for updating your profi le for the public can be found here: https:// www.psychotherapy.org.uk/update-fi nd-therapist-profi le/. We will be looking into the possibility of creating a new directory, in the future.

UKCP certifi cates For members who are clinically registered with UKCP, we have

been made aware that they no longer denote the modality or college a registrant belongs to. Should members or employers require confi rmation of this, UKCP are happy to provide an additional letter of confi rmation. Please contact membership@ukcp.org.uk

AFT conferences If you are signed up to receive emails from AFT, you will be

aware that, after carefully monitoring developments with the coronavirus, trying to balance the wish to go ahead as planned with the need to protect potential attendees’ safety, and the decision by the hotel owners to close it for redevelopment, AFT and the Manchester branch are unable to hold the September 2020 symposium. Again, we apologise for any inconvenience and hope you

understand it was necessary under the current circumstances. If you have booked accommodation, we suggest you contact your hotel or booking agency to request a refund. The hotel has now closed and many are off ering refunds if they are no longer able to honour the reservation, even if the initial rate you booked was a pre-paid non-refundable one. Unfortunately, AFT are not able to assist with hotel or travel refunds. We are sorry we won’t see you in Manchester, but hope you will stay safe and we look forward to seeing you at future events. We are already making plans for the AFT Conference 2021, in collaboration with Friends of KCC and The Coordinated Management of Meaning Institute (USA). The theme will be, Making Better Social Worlds for the 21st Century: Legacies

Context 170, August 2020 Summer break

The AFT offi ce will be closed from 24 to 28 August 2020 inclusive (and bank holiday Monday 31 August).

and Expanding Horizons. This two-day conference is planned to take place in Oxford on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 September 2021. Please save the date. Further information will follow.

Annual general meeting As the association’s face-to-face annual general meeting

would have taken place at the Manchester symposium, we have been exploring alternative ways to hold the AGM this year. The 45th annual general meeting of the Association for Family Therapy will now take place online, on Monday 19 October 2020. All AFT members are welcome to attend and further details will follow in an email newsletter. You will fi nd annual reports in this issue of Context from pages 45 to 58. Committee reports and any additional branch reports will appear in the October issue. If you are unable to attend the online AGM and would like to nominate a proxy to vote on your behalf, please complete the form on page 62 of this issue.

AFT webinars We were excited to host the fi rst AFT webinar, on Constructing

Connections across Cultures, Creating Connections within Couples: The Inter-cultural Exeter Model, which was presented by Janet Reibstein and Reenee Singh on 3 July 2020. This is available to view on the members’ area of the AFT website under ‘Research and Resources’, ‘Digital Resources and Downloads’. Our webinar group has been very active indeed, and we have

an exciting menu of webinars planned for you in the next few months. Those planned for August and September will cover these topics: • Black Lives Matter: Let’s Talk About Race, on Wednesday 19 August 2020, presented by Sharon Bond and facilitated by Nigel Jacobs.

• Insights from the Reducing Parental Confl ict Programme, on Thursday 20 August 2020, presented by Emily Ingle and facilitated by Marion Dixon.
