Simple Ways to Relax For Birth

Hypnobirthing techniques aren’t complicated. They can just feel a bit strange because we simply don’t put them into practice enough in day to day life. If you, like most, are busy with work or other children, then these three super simple to implement tools could help you to relax throughout your pregnancy and during birth too:

Relaxation Breathing: Whenever you feel tense or anxious in day to day life, use this breathing to bring you back to a calm state. It’s very simple, and it effectively stops the rush of adrenaline from taking over. To do it, gently close your eyes and breathe in slowly through your nose for 3, 4 or 5 counts (whichever is most comfortable for you) and then out through your nose for slightly longer. Doing this a few times will help to overcome any developing tension.

Guided Relaxations: Download and listen to a guided relaxation audio every day. In bed is the best time, just before you go to sleep. Don’t worry if you fall asleep within minutes; this means it is working!

Your Jaw: Be mindful of how you are holding your jaw. Your jaw is linked to your pelvis and if it is tense, then your pelvis is tense too. Your pelvis is an important part of birthing your baby, so you want it to be as relaxed as possible. Give it a wiggle whenever you feel tense, or are struggling to fall asleep. This will often be enough to release it.
