Sword & Trowel 2016: Issue 2
to insist on a constitution based upon biblical belief and practice. Thank you for your support for our
fi rst annual School of Theology, ‘The Foundations of a Biblical Church’, held from 29th September to 1st October in Pereira. About 150 people attended to hear addresses on key issues for today from pastors from Bolivia, Colombia, Peru and the USA and from Spanish- speaking deacon Michael Hunt from the Tabernacle. The lectures were very practical in
nature, including aspects of: the inspi- ration of Scripture and its suffi ciency; evangelism and evangelistic preaching; practically applied teaching; reverent worship; characteristics of a biblical church; child evangelism; the infi ltra- tion of worldly values; symptoms of a church in decline and biblical separa- tion. Attendees were mostly from nearby but some came from more distant parts of Colombia and a few from other Spanish-speaking countries. Many were from charismatic churches and
we have had several conversations with local people who are seriously questioning their beliefs and practices. The lectures are now on our website www.ibgrpereira .com/conferencia- reformada-2016 and we pray that they will be a blessing to many in South America and beyond who are so heavily infl uenced by charismatic teaching and practice, and where those interested in reformed doctrine are open to the tidal wave of ‘new Calvinistic’ compromise available in Spanish via the internet from the USA and elsewhere. We plan, God willing, to hold a sec- ond conference in Pereira next year, with the theme – ‘Five hundred years: the past, present and future of the Ref- ormation’.
