Sword & Trowel 2016: Issue 2
HUNGARIAN LITERATURE News from Pastor Miki Chiciudean, Soli Deo Gloria Reformed Baptist Church, Budapest
B
Y the Lord’s grace and with your help we have continued our publication work. This year we have published two books, Worship in the Melting Pot and The Personal Spiritual Life, and two booklets, The Purposes of the Lord’s Supper and The Power of Prayer Meetings, all by Dr Masters. The two books especially were well
received. It is very sad that evangelical- ism here is largely collapsing under the pressure of worldliness and modern worship.
The Baptist Union in Hungary is in a serious battle concerning modern worship in its own churches, so the more conservative wing was very glad to have Worship as a tool. Other denominations have the same struggle. Copies were given free to some of the key leaders in the Union and to a number of pastors. Among them was the General Secretary of the Baptist Union and the Systematic Theology professor (one of my for- mer teachers) who has bought for the students one hundred copies of the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith which was fi rst published in Hungarian by us. The largest Hungarian evangelical publishing company has also bought a quantity of Worship in the Melting Pot. In late April I was invited to lecture at a Hungarian-speaking conference in Romania organised by a reformed Baptist brother who gathered about 60 people of different backgrounds and ordered a number of our publica- tions for the occasion. I have also had

opportunity to advertise our books in Arad, being invited to an anniver- sary event at the church where I grew up and started my pastoral ministry. All this has encouraged us to con- tinue our publishing ministry seeing that there is a want of solid, biblical books among Hungarians both in Hungary and in Romania. At the moment we are setting up our own web-shop and the advertising of our books on Facebook and Instagram.
Website ministry
We work continuously to improve and enlarge our website and have begun to share more articles about cur- rent issues.
I also want to share with a larger audience the fruit of reading many good books which are not available in Hungarian. There are no resources to get them translated so I have decided to make summaries in Hungarian and to post them as articles on the website. I want to enrich as many as I can by sharing with them the essence of the best evangelical and Puritan books written in English.
Church services and outreach We had a good start to 2016 with
several newcomers in our services. Among these a young lady and a middle-aged couple are still present with us. Mostly, visitors come once or twice but do not return. Many have had earlier religious experience and are
