Boels buys Artisan Hire
As we first reported on our website (
www.executivehirenews.co.uk), Boels Rental has acquired Swindon-based Artisan Hire Centres and its sister company SAS (Survey & Safety Equipment Hire and Sales). Artisan and SAS operate from nine depots across the south-west of England.
These latest Boels additions follow the acquisition of Supply UK Hire Shops in 2017 and Already Hire earlier this year, bringing its UK branch network to 38. Pierre Boels, CEO of Boels
Rental, said, “Artisan and SAS are both well-established and very successful in the south-west of England. Their acquisition can only benefit the growth strategy that Boels has for Great Britain. Although our ultimate aim is to achieve national coverage,
we will focus primarily on local and regional businesses for the time being.” Artisan’s Chris Comer added, “Boels is a major player in the rental market, and we will have the opportunity to accelerate our growth under its wing.”
New Thwaites model in demand
Thwaites has added a new 4.5-tonne hydrostatic power swivel dumper to the range available through its UK & Ireland network, and one of the first has been sold to the Ovenden Group by distributor, Lister Wilder. Paul Rodwell, the manufacturer’s Distributor Manager
(South), said, “The 4.5-tonner has long been very popular overseas. It is easy to operate, efficient and incredibly effective on site. Here in the UK, the ‘norm’ is to move from a 3-tonner straight to a 6-tonne machine.” Ovenden Group MD, Tristan Ovenden added, “The
machine will be hired out to contractors across the South East, down to the Kent coast, by our compact plant hire division Boss Plant Hire Ltd, based in Canterbury. We saw a real opportunity to provide a model that could give more power and performance than a typical 3-tonner, yet not have the physical size of a 6-tonne model.” Tristan Ovenden is pictured, centre, receiving the
