TRIO FOR HIRE STANDARDS
Hire Standards has brought its depot network in south-west England to three, following the acquisition of the name and assets of Whitebridge Hire Services Ltd in Semley, near Shaftesbury in Dorset. This follows soon after the opening of Hire Standards’ depot in
Frome in May, complementing the company’s headquarters in Westbury, Wiltshire. “The opening of
our Frome facility created a lot of comment and feedback, and I heard that Whitebridge Hire Services’
owner, Pat Kenyon, was considering retirement,” said MD Matt Rowe. Arvill adds apprentices
Arvill Plant & Tool Hire of Airdrie has recruited two young local people as apprentice mechanics. Euan Wilson, 16, and Andrew Peden, 17, left school this summer and wanted a career that developed their interest in machinery. Euan approached Arvill through his father, who is one of
the company’s customers. Having developed an interest in mechanics and motorbikes doing casual work for a local garage, he is now busy in the hirer’s workshops. Andrew had undertaken volunteer work with a local waste management firm and contacted Arvill directly. He is building on his operating experience and getting involved in Health & Safety management. Both are participating
in a CITB programme and undergoing a 3-year Modern Apprenticeship course with block release attachments at the National Construction College in Glasgow. Amy Monaghan, Arvill’s Administrative Director, said,
“Good apprentices are hard to find, and I’m very impressed with the eagerness to learn that both Euan (pictured right) and Andrew are showing. I can see them having a long and successful career within our growing Arvill family.”
“We had a conversation and we completed the deal on 20 August. The location is excellent for us because our three depots now cover a sizeable region in a convenient triangle, giving us a bigger catchment area. Whitebridge Hire Services has a good local reputation and we will retain the name for the time being. Like our other depots, it is situated on a trading estate. “As EHN reported in the July/August issue when we opened in
Frome, we placed a considerable order with JCB at the Executive Hire Show for mini excavators, compact dumpers, rollers and powered access machinery. We are still taking delivery of the equipment, so some of these new products are now going directly to Whitebridge to boost its fleet. “The market is very positive at the moment and we are still moving
forward with plans for further growth. We are exploring a number of options and we might open even more depots in 2019.”
New Brendon machine for SHC
Skipton Hire Centres (SHC) has taken delivery of a Brendon 50KPE-VT Mobile pressure washer. The company, which has depots in Skipton, Ilkley, Ripon, and Northallerton, has offered the manufacturer’s machines in its hire fleet for more than ten years. SHC’s MD Neil Bravery is pictured, right,
receiving the unit from Brendon’s Stuart Haskins, who told EHN that another recent buyer of the machine is HOS Hire of Neath. The company is using it to clean concrete formwork that it supplies.
Brandon trucks move Forward
Two new Isuzu Forward N75.150 rigid trucks with twin-compartment tanker bodies have gone into service with Brandon Hire as it upgrades its toilet servicing vehicle fleet. They are now working out of
the hirer’s depots in Cardiff and Sowton, near Exeter, providing support services for events operations. The vehicles have separate 650-gallon and 150-gallon compartments respectively for waste and fresh water delivery, and replace two existing Isuzu models. Brandon, which was acquired last year by Vp, says that the new Euro VI
trucks will give better fuel economy and performance, and they have been fitted with upgraded pumps for greater efficiency.
