Speedy opens Reading depot Speedy has launched a new regional service centre in Reading to expand

the services it provides across the Thames Valley. The new 18,000 sq ft centre, on Bennet Road in the city, is more than

double the size of the firm’s previous site on nearby Boulton Road, and the business expects to hire new staff this year as it expands its range of services at the store. The Bennet Road service centre will offer the firm’s full range of lifting

and survey equipment, from hoists and gantries to scissor lifts and mast booms. The store will also provide hire services for small tools, fencing and plant equipment, including excavators and trailers. The Reading expansion is the latest in Speedy's multi-million-pound investment drive, and follows recent growth in Swindon, Doncaster and Bury St Edmunds. Dave Cummings, area manager for the South Coast, said: “This

investment comes at an important time for the region. The pipeline of exciting new developments is building quickly across the city and there are growing number of local contractors that need access to a

comprehensive range of tools and equipment hire and advice to support them in delivering their projects safely, on time and on budget. “The move to significantly expand our presence represents the strength of our commitment to Reading and we look forward to continuing to build on the services we can provide for our customers.”

years. None of the current team is entirely sure of its exact age, but the best guesstimate is that it was erected in the mid-1980s. However, it was manufactured by Scotch Derrick and was bought from Lyndsey Docks in the Forest of Dean “It has been decommissioned for some time and had

become a condemned structure. In the interest of safety, and to give us flexibility with possible development plans, we've taken the steps to dismantle and remove it from our site. She has been a fantastic work- horse over the 30+ years in service, and it will be strange to not see her towering over the LFI site!” gushed an LFI spokesperson. What the company does with this newfound extra space is

still TBC, but they have at least found the time to produce this moody photo.
