It’s over a decade since EHN last visited Shindaiwa, but what has changed in the years since? We met with MD Andy Munford and Sales Director Tom Page to find out…
W
inding the clock back to 2010, Shindaiwa Ltd had only recently been
incorporated in the UK and was just finding its feet with an initial range of three welder generators. We covered the company in our October edition that year, using the headline ‘Shindaiwa Powers Up’. The title suited them well back then, but with new products in the pipeline and a lighting range developed in its own right, it seems even more appropriate now.
Andy Munford and Tom Page’s history dates back to the ArcGen days, when the latter joined as an apprentice, and the two have worked together on and off since. More about that shortly, but first I wanted to know how the company had developed in the years since we last visited?
“We’ve expanded our range of equipment and we’ve become much bigger,” Andy begins, summarily. “Back then we were very small, but we’ve gained a large foothold in the market now. I’d say we’re the market leader in the UK, and I like to think that most companies in our market will have a Shindaiwa welder generator somewhere in their fleet.”
A bold claim, although activity in the Shindaiwa’s warehouse does indeed attest to brisk trading. Meanwhile, its portfolio has now grown to include five welder generators, a unique multi- voltage generator and an expanding range of industrial
lighting solutions. All well and good, so who’s buying nowadays? “With our range of products, we target the rental sector first and foremost,” explains Tom. “We tend to hit the nationals high, wide and deep, but we also
