TIME FLIES AT HSC
Two decades have flashed by for the Hire Supply Company. Here we meet just a few of its key staff – the guys behind the scenes who do all the hard work, as they say…
As of July 2nd 2021 HSC will have been supplying the plant and tool
Hire sector for 20 whole years, yet the company retains a tight and happy workforce and vigorously adheres to its core values of quality, support and service. This is readily apparent in the motivational quotes and inspiring keywords emablazoned around the office, but it’s even more evident in talking to the team members individually. The gents at the top table have had all the coverage they need, and will no doubt receive plenty yet, but what about the rest of the team? As the china anniversary is attained, we meet a just few of them.
The Exec team: Steve McKenzie, Kevin Lever (now retired), Dan Musson and MD Gary McWilliam.
Simon Elvey General Manager “I’ve been at the company for 18 years. I started in telesales, then moved to spare parts and technical support. As I grew to understand the whole of the business I became office manager, and eventually this role. My job is to be ‘the grease between the cogs’, although it has been a bit more diverse recently. At the height of lockdown it was just me and the directors – I was doing dispatch and looking after the warehouse. It’s been more hands-on ever since, and I haven’t spent a full day at my desk for something like18 months! The best part of my job is the brilliant team I work with.”
Steve Rose Warehouse Supervisor
“I’ve worked here for eight years. The best part of my job is having a good crack with the rest of the lads – we look after picking, packing and warehousing. I’ve been back full time since May last year. We had a busy winter, and it’s stayed constant since. Everyone pitched in to get the job done because we’re a good team.”
Aiden Gosling Warehouse Operative
“I’ve been with HSC since the start. I took a sabbatical between 2006 and 2009, but I was re- employed and I haven’t looked back since. Work has its ups and downs. Sometimes it gets stressful and it seems that a job is impossible. However, it’s brilliant when we all pull together and get it done. We're one of the busiest departments, but once we set our minds on a task we can achieve anything!”
Ryan Anderton Warehouse Operative
“I’m 18 and I officially started in April. The best part of my job is getting all the orders out of the door and the people I work with – being with these two is a good laugh. This is my first proper job, but I was doing agency work here previously”
