HEART OF HIRE

C H A L L E N G E S T O M E E T …

The Forum in our previous issue discussed the need to look ahead to the New Year positively, and despite the unexpected, unprecedented and unresolved political events of recent weeks, we are still of the same opinion. Hence we have no hesitation in continuing to add our ‘Moving Forward with Confidence’ branding throughout this issue, reflecting all the positive news throughout this bumper edition of EHN.

While uncertainty may cause anxiety, it is important to keep a sense of perspective. Rather than worrying about what may not happen, focus should be directed on the here and now, and more immediate matters of concern. And that is what a number of hirers have had to do recently, with considerable urgency.

As you will read in our article starting on page 41, hirers both large and small were affected by a wave of break-ins across a significant area in

the north-west of England. Companies have had to re-appraise the security measures they already had in place, and some businesses have been so severely affected by the thefts and the resultant damage to their premises that their very future is in question.

Coincidentally, on page 51, we review the recent CITS (Combined Industry Theft Solutions) conference which provided an update on some of the latest equipment security measures and crime deterrents, as well as advice on how hirers can reduce the risk of thefts both from their own premises and from customers’ sites. It’s a poignant reminder that, instead of worrying about what might or might not happen in the months ahead, there are tangible issues that need to be addressed in the here and now. And what is particularly pleasing is that hirers have worked together to combat the spate of thefts, sharing information and ideas.

… O P P O R T U N I T I E S T O E X P L O R E

And talking of working together and sharing ideas in a positive spirit, like the rest of our industry we are eagerly looking ahead to the Executive Hire Show taking place at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on 6 and 7 February. More than 190 exhibitors are expected to be there and no fewer than 43 are participating for the first time.

As you will read in our comprehensive Show Preview beginning on page 53, the products on display cover the whole spectrum, from core fleet items like power tools, mobile access towers, heaters, lighting and generators, to more niche offerings for markets such as flood restoration, vehicle rental and specialist lifting and carrying equipment. Many suppliers have timed their new launches to coincide with the Show.

A number of these exciting new additions are highlighted in our article on page 37 outlining the Innovation Trail, a showcase for some of the cutting-edge products you can see on display. And many exhibitors will be taking the opportunity to update visitors on new

initiatives to enable hirers and end users to meet changing market trends and requirements, such as battery and solar powered machinery for low emission zones, and equipment with engines designed to ensure compliance with the EU Stage V regulations that came into effect in January.

The Show once again provides the perfect platform for Passionate Hirers and Innovative Suppliers to work together, building business relationships and exploring exciting opportunities. And the timing of the event at the start of the year is ideal, allowing industry professionals to plan for success in 2019.

As we continue to ‘Move Forward with Confidence’, this bumper 104-page issue is testament in itself to the ongoing strength of our industry and the importance of visiting the Show to capitalise on the many opportunities that can benefit your hire business in the year ahead. You can register now at www.executivehireshow.co.uk We look forward to seeing you there!
