WASTE RECYCLING

Dsposal’s success in waste is putting criminals out of pocket

Manchester-based clean-tech company Dsposal have signed up North Yorkshire’s largest waste management company, Yorwaste, to their website. Dsposal were recently made ambassadors of the ‘Right Waste, Right Place’ campaign on the back of The Tip of the Binberg report they released in September this year on waste crime in Greater Manchester. They also used their sponsorship of the Waste Matters theatre at RWM this year to shine a spotlight on Duty of Care and have just launched a semi-automated Duty of Care audit tool developed with input from CIWM and Right Waste, Right Place.

Tom Passmore, CEO of Dsposal, said: “Those in the industry

know how much of an impact illegal operators have on legitimate waste businesses, and our research shows even just in Greater Manchester

“Our research also shows most people don’t have a clue when it comes to their waste responsibilities, which is why we’re making it easy for everyone to fi nd the right place for their waste. We want to help all those legitimate waste businesses working hard to comply by directing more customers to them by cutting out all the unlicensed operators.” Their ‘Waste Thesaurus’, which helps people correctly choose the right EWC

code, has been getting hundreds of hits per week from as far afi eld as Europe – as it is the fi rst searchable database of waste terms against the EWC code list. John Dunwell, Marketing Coordinator at Yorwaste, said: “Dsposal have made quite a mark on the industry since they launched earlier this year and quite frankly, we couldn’t aff ord to ignore that. “We’re proud of our record in the region, and have seen steady growth consolidate our position as the leading regional waste management company.

“Innovation is one of our key values and so we’re keen to embrace technology, like Dsposal, where we see it can help us deliver a better service to our customers.” Matthew Wilkinson, Head of Sales and Marketing at Yorwaste, added: “We initially thought Dsposal was primarily just a directory of licensed waste companies, but there’s a lot more to it than that and

their focus on simplifying compliance is something we really welcome.” Dsposal now have waste companies on their website from Penzance to North Yorkshire and from Kent to Cumbria. Their ambition is to add a suite of new services to their off ering over the next 12 months. Dsposal have also been approached by a number of local authorities, who have asked them to add details of the household waste recycling centres. Tom Passmore concluded: “Things are really picking up and we’re delighted Yorwaste have set their sights on Dsposal. We’ve already had discussions about new features they’d like to see us develop. “Unlike some of our recent competitors we’re lucky because we have software developers in-house we’re able to create these tech solutions for our customers quickly and they’re all included in the monthly subscription price.”

Reconomy’s skip hire app captivates waste industry

Sitebuddy, a smartphone app, designed with the UK’s waste industry in mind, has gone from strength to strength over the past year after processing over 1,000 waste movements since mid-2018. Sitebuddy, is an app developed by Telford-based Reconomy, a company specialising in outsourced waste management and recycling. The company states it takes less than 60 seconds to process a skip or waste container order via the app, estimating this has saved Reconomy customers over 30 hours of administration time in total.

Jamie Roberts, Reconomy’s Director of Managed Accounts, said: “The feedback from customers using the app has been overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on how easy SiteBuddy is to use and how much of a timesaver it is.” The app appears to have found a gap in the market, hitting the milestone of 1,000 waste movements less than four months after its launch. It was designed with site personnel and procurement teams in mind, working in parallel to Reconomy’s online portal, which collates each customer’s waste data to ensure a

complete audit trail. Paul Cox, the company’s Chief Executive, added: “We’re delighted with the success of SiteBuddy, which is attracting more of our customers every day. We will continue to champion tech-enablement and pioneer new ways of working to improve our internal processes and benefi t the experience of our customers.” Reconomy coordinates more than 12,000 waste movements every week, off ering skip and container hire, waste handling equipment, hazardous waste solutions, food waste collection and more.
