Special Report

It’s best not to assume clients will remember to get in touch when they need us – how many of them right now have ‘Sort Promo Goods’ on their to-do list?

3. Crafting: Now the problems/ideas are mapped; they need to be put across in a way that makes sense, resonates, and leads to another purchase. Choose the platform based on how your clients like to communicate, whether email, WhatsApp, etc. Use your words in the way you speak to your clients.

4. Automating: Now it’s all mapped out, you can automate the entire process. Which means the right message goes to the right person at the right time, generating new orders from your existing clients every quarter. Consider which is an easier sell and order to make happen – a new client placing their first order or when your previous clients order something again?

Work beyond products

We’ve covered utilising the Aftercare Funnel to get clients buying more, but in my mind, exceptional customer service goes well beyond just providing a good service. True quality customer service shows that you C.A.R.E. Connect them. Imagine what it would mean if you introduce one client to another and, as a result, they do great business together. You may not make any money, but you put two good clients in touch. They’ll remember you are the reason.

Answer their questions. Consider what uncertainties people will have. This can be small things, like communicating how long an order will take to arrive. Is there anything where people don’t understand the product? A friend of mine has a garden maintenance business and has a lot of problems with this. He cut back hedges for a couple; a week later, the husband complained the job wasn’t done properly because random shoots had been left. When a hedge is cut back, it sends a burst of energy to grow new stems, so it has a sudden growth spurt.

He could have prevented that complaint entirely by just informing the customer that they’re likely to see a fresh burst of growth. When have people had similar misunderstandings with your products? Reward them. This annoys me, and gyms are the worst for it – massive campaigns to incentivise new people, yet loyal customers? Forgotten. Stability in business is because of the most loyal customers, so it makes sense to reward them.

If you’ve got a big client that’s been loyal for years, why not produce a couple of samples for them without them asking, as a surprise? You’re gifting them something that might lead to a big order. You feed their ego and show you care. Consider how much it costs you to get a brand-new client; what would that cost be compared to gifting a few clients?

Empathise and solve for them. It can just be about sharing your wisdom through advice. I have this framework for structuring your services to create a predictable customer journey; it’s called G.P.C.P.

The G stands for ‘gifts’, these are free resources you give away www.printwearandpromotion.co.uk

that take zero time or effort. You may have a guide for how construction companies can get the most durable/warmest/lightest workwear. You use this to attract new clients, but it’s also a resource to share with your clients. Take the most misunderstood product you have and make a handover guide for it.
