Supplier Profile: Regatta Professional Clothing with a conscience
Born from the UK’s biggest outdoor clothing brand, Regatta Professional has the trusted expertise to kit out your workforce the professional way. It’s clothing that works since 1981. Now, with a true focus on sustainability, the clothing giants are working towards every product in their range to contain sustainable fibres by 2025.
I
n 2019, Regatta Professional set about creating their first fully sustainable clothing range, Honestly Made. The collection is made entirely of plastic bottles, saving millions from landfill. The range covers everything from the base layer to outerwear, including expertly crafted softshells and convenient bodywarmers. It’s all made entirely from plastic bottles collected from recycling centres, which are then processed and spun into thread.
Honestly Made was just the beginning for Regatta Professional. As well as this popular collection, all Regatta Professional Softshell now contains a minimum of 30% recycled yarns. This softshell is used to create the full kit, whether trousers, jackets or bodywarmers - providing lightweight and super breathable layers that are perfect for work. Regatta Professional is very proud of its great workwear and sustainable efforts, and these high standards are upheld throughout the company. Regatta Professional is a member of Better Cotton, a world-leading sustainability initiative for cotton with a mission to help cotton communities thrive, while protecting the environment. The non-profit organisation enables retailers and brands to invest in farmers’
capacities to adopt more sustainable practices and improving livelihoods. The membership goes a long way in helping achieve Regatta Professional’s target of every product in their range containing sustainable fibres by 2025.
High standards flow through their supply chain too. As part of the wider Regatta Group, Professional is a member of the Ethical Trade Initiative (ETI) and follows their base code of labour rights within all of its factories. This makes sure high standards are fulfilled in every part of Regatta Professional’s clothing process. Beyond this, Regatta is passionate about its factories being great places to work, and has therefore invested in programmes
and training through reputable
organisations such as SGS, Intertek, Better Work & SCORE. All of this work sets a precedent across the Regatta Group and makes striving for high standards, in every aspect of the production process, much more achievable.
It’s important to note, that while Regatta Professional’s design technologies are changing to adapt to sustainable measures, there’s no compromise on the high quality of the product. With over 40 years of heritage to call upon; jackets, trousers, all-in-ones and accessories still remain fully protective, waterproof, breathable and stretchy. Regatta Professional believes in creating strong communities that thrive at work, whether that’s through the products they sell or the workers who make their products. It’s just as important as their

sustainable initiatives, helping to uphold high standards across the company. That’s why the Regatta Group runs a women’s health programme in one of their supplier factories in Bangladesh that helps to educate women workers about health, hygiene, nutrition and finances. As well as this, the clothing giants also sponsor a primary school near to one of their factory suppliers. For over 10 years they have invested in training of the teachers, provided school meals to all pupils, helped refurbish the school and established a library and playground. Closer to home Regatta Professional has partnered with Band of Builders, a registered charity who support the individuals within the construction industry affected with life changing illnesses. The charity is formed via a network of tradespeople who work on home renovation projects to support people within the trade who are no longer able to work themselves. There’s a stylish and comfy range of workwear available, with sustainable cotton options too, plus 10% of the profits go to Band of Builders. All of these great initiatives help Regatta Professional give back to their communities, near and far. It helps to set the precedent of high standards across all aspects of development at Regatta Professional, in turn helping to push for more sustainability across the whole company, and lead the way in workwear design and distribution.
