the World Cup takes place in Qatar. That’s set to be a shock to the system – an almost Christmas World Cup. Maybe the two events could combine. Who wouldn’t want to see Santa in the Three Lions? For many fans in the UK it will be a TV experience, whether at home or in the pub, so expect to see lots of promotional activity featuring traditional standbys such as branded clothing – T shirts, hoodies, and hats – as well as footballs, fl ags, and bunting.
Given the time of year, it may be worth considering some more left fi eld options such as World Cup Christmas jumpers. Not Just Clothing has a particularly fi ne example which features the motto ‘Christmas is coming home’ with three Santa-hatted lions on the back and a Southgate inspired waistcoat and tie front.

Speaking of interesting campaigns, our friends across the Pond have come up with some great promotional campaigns that have caught my eye of late.
It’s 16in tall, 10in wide and 6.5in deep, and made of tin and plastic, making it a sturdy and extremely powerful popcorn bucket. Whosoever holds the hammer, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor, or a least a family sized portion of Butterkist. More foodie promos come from KFC which may be rueing its former ‘Finger Lickin’ Good’ motto. It’s also looking to focus attention on its side dishes to show it isn’t just all about the chicken. To that end KFC in the US has created little sporks that fi t over your fi ngers – sort of Finger Fittin’ Good. They are ‘ergonomic and gastronomic [pieces] of table-ware tech’ it claims, and perfect for items like corn or mashed potatoes. Customers could get the Finger Sporks by ordering a Sides Lovers Meal via the KFC mobile app, or in participating restaurants.
“KFC Finger Sporks are taking sides off the sidelines and putting them in the spotlight,” said KFC marketer Nick Chavez. “Every detail of the innovative Finger Spork has been carefully crafted and pressure tested – by way of eating many KFC sides – for the optimal fi nger lickin’ good experience.”
