development and horticultural offerings. Beyond that, the live entertainment is world-class, with a wide variety of stage shows, parades and roving performances taking place on a daily basis.”
RIDING HIGH Lotte World Adventure Busan has been built to beguile its visitors - as soon as they arrive and as they make their way throughout the park. But what of the attractions themselves? Lotte World Adventure Busan features five signature attractions, and aside from the rides there is the Roller Coaster Restaurant. A popular staple in European theme parks - including Alton Towers, Futuroscope, and Europa Park - this is the first of its kind in Asia, serving food to diners via an elaborate network of roller coaster- style tracks. The Roller Coaster Restaurant is found within
Wonder Woods, as is the Giant Splash - a steel launched water shuttle roller coaster at a lofty 147.6 ft high, 711 ft long and reaching 62.8 mph - from Mack Rides. Upon arrival at the park and entering the whimsical
River Village of Tinker Falls, guests are met with the towering cascade of ABC Rides’ Ogre’s Flume. One of Lotte World Adventure Busan’s largest attractions, this expansive log flume is inspired by the popular Korean fairy tale, The Ogres’ Magic Clubs. This ride’s path is intricately woven through the
park’s arrival zone, with its climactic drop serving as the first sight for visitors as they pass through the entrance turnstiles. The friendly Ogre mascot characters, also designed by Legacy Entertainment,

were first introduced to Lotte World’s flagship park in Seoul as part of the Underland expansion in 2012. And it’s within the thrill-seeker’s paradise of
Underland at Lotte World Adventure Busan that visitors will find this park’s other two signature attractions. There’s the Giant Digger, a Mack Rides multi-looping launch coaster at 124.7 ft high, 3,464 ft long, and reaching speeds of 62 mph. Close by, and on a similarly mammoth scale, is the aptly named Giant Swing from Zamperla Giant Discovery. If they can open their eyes, this gravity-defying, spinning pendulum ride treats 40 riders at a time to epic views of Gijang coast.
LASTING IMPRESSIONS Lotte World in Busan might be smaller than its Seoul counterpart, but with its trio of Giant attractions - not to mention stunning surroundings combining nature with a touch of the supernatural - it makes a big impact. And it is seeing huge success despite the current challenges faced by the industry and the Asian market, including the ongoing effects of the pandemic and the relative dearth of international tourism. Jeffs explains: “Like all of our current projects, the
construction timetable was impacted by the pandemic. In a strange way, this might have been helpful to the park, as it allowed our client to negate the damaging global trend of opening a new park before being ready and facing repercussions as a result. “The other key challenge for all of our new projects
in the region is that China, generally our largest source of international visitors, remains closed indefinitely. Fortunately, all of our partners have continued to look
at their developments with a long-term perspective, and have so far stayed the course to deliver world- class experiences that will not disappoint visitors once the world has fully reopened.” The Lotte World in Busan project marks the ninth
collaboration between Lotte World and Legacy Entertainment in a decade-long partnership. This is the sort of park that makes a lasting emotional impression on its visitors, and as its gardens grow to become established and ever more captivating, so too will Lotte World Adventure Busan.
