Cover Story

best to keep up with delivering boxes of supplies to each game. Things get crazy when the pair accidentally pick up a box of Krabby Patty

ingredients and try to cover their tracks by loading the games with ingredients, from buns to patties, sea tomatoes and more. But their mistake plays right into the hands of Plankton, Mr. Krabs’ arch-nemesis. It’s a golden opportunity for him to finally steal the Krabby Patty secret recipe - and it’s safe to say that this small corner of the Pacific Ocean plunges into chaos!

Exclusive storyline The ride’s exclusive storyline is perfectly in keeping with the tone of the TV series, and was meticulously developed by Sally Dark Rides’ creative team, led by chief creative officer, Rich Hill. John Wood, president of Sally Dark Rides, comments: “We thank Circus

Circus, Nickelodeon and Paramount for trusting us to create this original tale with SpongeBob SquarePants, Mr. Krabs, Patrick and their friends. Sally is known for bringing beloved brands to life and it’s been an honour to develop an entirely new experience with this lovable and silly cast of characters.” Giving her take on the ride as a whole, Sally Dark Rides’ vice president of

marketing and business development, Lauren Wood Weaver, adds: “This ride is one of those attractions that just makes you smile. From the moment you see Mr. Krabs at the entrance and hear all his witty, money-hungry banter you know you’re in for some fun. Then you enter his carnival tent and it’s about as immersive as it gets. SpongeBob characters everywhere, floor-to-ceiling colour, a track that looks like Bikini Bottom sand, bright media that blends in with cute carnival scenery, and iconic animatronic characters around every bend – you feel like you’ve just entered a SpongeBob cartoon! Then we added in competitive, but relatively easy gaming, so that every member of the family can play along. It’s just one of those rides that’s just a winner in every aspect.” Taking riders on their underwater adventures are the ride’s five-passenger

Carnival Carts – ‘Mystic Movers’ by ETF – which transport guests through no less than 15 vibrant seafloor scenes, each as immersive as the next. There’s everything from interactive and hidden targets – whether riders are using their Carnival Wand Zapper to pop bubbles or smash plates – to multi-media projections and sensory special effects. These effects even include scents of cotton candy and BBQ grill; everything has been considered down to the last detail. Just as riders are settling into the pace of things, a chase to thwart Plankton

leaves riders on an exhilarated high before their final scores are revealed. SpongeBob’s Crazy Carnival Ride is an interactive dark ride that combines competition with creativity, pulling no punches when it comes to world-class theming and storytelling, seamlessly integrating and upholding the standard of an iconic IP. Of course, this should come as no surprise. This ride is one of many that

showcase Sally Dark Rides’ capability when it comes to delivering on well- known IP, collaborating closely with IP holders to exceed fan expectations again and again. We have seen it before with Scooby Doo, Justice League and Sesame Street – and Sally has even brought the Care Bears and Angry Birds franchises into the dark ride fold. Marie Marks, SVP, Themed Entertainment, Paramount Global, says:

“We have enormous respect for Sally, and their involvement gave us, as the IP-holder, confidence that the final product would be resonant with SpongeBob fans. Sally brings incredible experience and tremendous professionalism to everything they do and we saw that throughout the development process.” Back in Bikini Bottom, production of the second iteration of SpongeBob’s

Crazy Carnival Ride is underway and set to be installed at The Land of Legends in Turkey later in 2024. And with the location-based entertainment market continuing to grow, and demand for IP-based attractions at an all-time high, it’s likely we’ll be seeing much more of SpongeBob and his friends.
