and erupting volcanoes. Just before their journey begins however, guests are met with a surprise. “We created an intentional blackout,” said

Newton. “Once guests are seated, everything around them goes completely dark as the ride vehicle rotates and sets itself for launch. This is a key storytelling transition and enables guests to be fully in story from the very first moment until the final frame.” Expedition Odyssey Fire & Ice is an immersive

journey created almost entirely from real footage, allowing guests to experience remarkable places and wildlife as they exist in nature. As guests fly over massive volcanic eruptions and giant icebergs, dive under the ice, and soar over Iceland, the images are seamlessly transferred from real to reel. “Authenticity is incredibly important to

proud to have played a part in this experience and grateful to SeaWorld Orlando for welcoming us into their world.” Along with creating an entire new film, Newton

and the SeaWorld team put themselves in the mindset and wait time experience of the guest. “We also looked at the entire space leading up to the experience and paid close attention to every detail,” he said. “We wanted our guests to start their journey as soon as they go through the portal into the research base. The new queue reflects that and builds a sense of wonder and discovery. Our goal was to transition our guests from park visitors to researchers who are taking part in an expedition and a mission. Together they are going on a journey of discovery and exploration.”

“Fire & Ice is miles ahead of where we

were last year,” added Jon ‘JP’ Petersen, park president, SeaWorld Orlando. “I love the queue space. The enhanced environments, storytelling elements and visuals help establish a stronger sense of place and better prepare guests for the adventure ahead. If you look closely, you can see we even poke fun a little fun at ourselves. We incorporated some footage from the original attraction in the queue area, but it looks old and grainy. It shows just how much better the new footage we have for Fire & Ice really is.” As they wait their turn, guests are briefed

in that queue that they will soon board a prototype drone craft that will take them for a flying adventure through extreme environments, including glaciers, icebergs, rivers, waterfalls,

SeaWorld,” Bechara stressed. “Nearly all of the visuals featured in Expedition Odyssey Fire & Ice are real-world footage, allowing guests to experience the beauty of these environments and the animals as they truly exist in nature.” “Using real footage creates a deeper connection

to the natural world and aligns with SeaWorld's mission of inspiring guests to care about wildlife and conservation,” she continued. “While select visual effects and transitions help support the storytelling, the overwhelming majority of what guests experience on screen is genuine footage captured in real locations with real animals.” “We are so proud of what we have done with

this attraction,” Newton concluded. Expedition Odyssey: Fire and Ice is a gateway. It is a glimpse of the bigger journey all of us at SeaWorld Orlando are on who we will become as a destination over the next five years. This is just an appetizer of what’s to come.”
