London Museum reveals four new food and drink venues for Smithfield site
T
he London Museum has unveiled plans for four new food and drink destinations that will open as part of its new home at Smithfield
Market. Previously known as the Museum of London,
the £437 million venue will welcome visitors to its permanent galleries at Smithfield’s General Market on 28 November 2026. Designed by Stanton Williams and Asif Khan,
alongside conservation architects Julian Harrap, the museum occupies the restored Victorian General Market building, which will reopen to the public for the first time in more than 30 years. Hospitality company Green & Fortune has been
appointed to deliver the four food and beverage concepts in collaboration with chef Robin Gill and drinks expert Mr Lyan. Among the new venues is The Roost, a rotating
street food residency showcasing emerging London chefs through pop-up concepts lasting up to six
months. Temperance Cocoa Rooms will revive the former Lockhart’s Cocoa Rooms as a sober socialising venue, operating 24 hours a day from Thursday to Sunday. The museum will also feature Bartholomew’s, a
street-facing cocktail bar inspired by the venue’s exhibitions and events, and Clerk’s House, an all-day dining restaurant celebrating the diverse culinary influences that have shaped London. Robin Gill said: "At London Museum, the food
alone will be a reason to visit. Working with Green & Fortune, we want to curate an experience that reflects the vibrancy of London and tell London's story through food. "We'll be partnering with the best London
producers and nurturing up-and-coming talent in the capital, which is an exciting proposition." Nathan Lamb, director of experience and
enterprise at the London Museum, said: "Food is how London meets. Over a table to share plates

efforts by expanding genetic diversity through specialist breeding programmes and supporting ecological research, with the long-term goal of reintroducing healthy turtle populations into their natural habitats. Iwan Wong, chief executive of Ocean Park

breeding programmes for local freshwater turtles at a dedicated facility, while establishing a platform for the public education," he added. Antony Yiu, chief financial officer and executive
director of Regina Miracle, said the company’s support for the centre "reflects our commitment to environmental responsibility, ensuring the preservation of local ecosystems and nurturing a sustainable, biodiverse future". Freshwater turtles play an important role in
maintaining the ecological balance of Hong Kong’s stream ecosystems, helping to support water quality and vegetation health. However, native species including the
endangered Beale’s eyed turtle and critically endangered big-headed turtle are facing severe decline in the South China region due to poaching, habitat destruction and competition from invasive species. Since 2020, Ocean Park has successfully
hatched 17 juvenile Beale’s eyed turtles through an intensive breeding programme, with plans to establish a new breeding initiative for big-headed turtles. The new centre will also support public
education, with visitors able to book tours of the facility to learn more about freshwater turtle conservation.

experiences that give people both a place and a reason to come together. "Working with Green & Fortune, alongside Robin
Gill and Mr Lyan Studio, it will be part of how we tell London’s story, drawing on Smithfield’s legacy as a place that has fed and entertained Londoners for close to a thousand years."
