Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood are introducing a new Fortnite-themed scare zone as part of this year’s Halloween Horror Nights. Inspired by Fortnitemares, the video game’s annual Halloween event, the new experience will bring horror-themed gameplay and familiar characters into an immersive live environment.

According to Universal, the scare zone will feature "ever-evolving and high-stakes environments" and "puts a twisted spin on the global video game phenomenon".

Guests will enter Freaky Fields, a Halloween-themed battleground that has been "overcome with a threatening force". Along the route, visitors will encounter the iconic Battle Bus alongside popular Fortnitemares characters, as well as new additions created exclusively for Halloween Horror Nights. Universal has also launched a range of merchandise inspired by the new scare zone, including a graphic T-shirt, decal set and acrylic collectible. Halloween Horror Nights will take place on selected nights at Universal Orlando from 28 August to 1 November, and at Universal Studios Hollywood from 3 September to 1 November.

The Fortnite experience joins a line-up of haunted attractions already announced for this year’s event, including houses inspired by Evil Dead Burn, the 1987 film Hellraiser, the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, and the award-winning film Sinners.

The Evil Dead Burn attraction will see guests attempt to evade Deadites after the Book of the Dead is reopened. The Hellraiser haunted house will recreate scenes and characters from the original 1987 film and the following two instalments in the original trilogy. Meanwhile, the Stranger Things experience will feature key moments from the show's final season, while the Sinners haunted house will transport visitors back to Club Juke.
