A versatile platform
Philippe Onillon, commercial and marketing director, Drone Interactive explains why new interactive attractions are combining drone piloting and video game
The drone revolution for the amusement industry
Flying drones is increasingly popular with the general public but also entertainment venues such as FECs and location-based attractions. Drones are generally perceived to be too expensive, too complicated, and even too dangerous to fly. In addition, the regulations wall for drone use in public spaces is becoming more and more difficult to overcome. With Arcadrone by Drone Interactive, you eliminate those obstacles thanks to an accessible, safe and fun experience using immersive and interactive gaming technology. Flying drones is now a family-friendly activity that’s as easy as riding a bike.
A unique experience
ARCADRONE allows up to four players to play simultaneously in intense games of a few minutes. The choreography of the drones synchronised with the sound and lights is a captivating show for the audience. With a high-performance anti- collision system and proprietary interaction engine, drones interact with each other and game events can affect their in-flight behavior. For the same attraction, different games with varied gameplays

can be offered to renew experiences and adapt to a wide audience. The combination of an intuitive control interface and a robotic battery management system makes it easy for parks to operation, and ensures profitability.
Technological innovations DRONE INTERACTIVE attractions are guaranteed zero-crash regardless of players’ piloting skills. Getting started for all audiences is immediate thanks to intuitive piloting made from the combination of several complex software layers: automatic take-off and landing, intelligent pilot assistance that keeps the players in control, automatic fencing of drones in the authorized flight space (virtualfencing), contactless collisions of drones between them.
Example: When in contact with another player’s drone, the drone’s in-flight behaviour will be immediately modified to simulate the effect of a collision. Finally, Drone Interactive offers an automatic battery management system that handles the battery exchange on the drone, as well as the optimization of the battery charging processes, without human intervention. The attraction works
continuously and there is no need to have a dedicated operator. Operating costs are controlled and revenues generated maximized for parks. This patented system is unique. As with a pit stop in Formula 1, the drones automatically land on their base between each game and their battery is changed in seconds.
Business model
An ARCADRONE attraction comes as a turnkey solution, which includes the complete system, installation on site, training of the operating team, guarantee of 1 year, as well as an initial stock of consumables(batteries and drones).
Achievements and next steps After attending the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in 2018, crowned by a finalist award in the “Best of CES 2018”, followed by a first installation in September 2019 in the EXALTO leisure multiplex (Dardilly – 69 - France), DRONE INTERACTIVE launched in 2020 the ARCADRONE product. A second installation followed shortly in the FUNPLANET of Rennaz Switzerland. Drone Interactive aims at becoming the leader of the drone revolution in the entertainment industry.
