Changing the way we pay
Renee Welsh, CEO of Embed expains how the company’s solutions are helping customers to recover post pandemic
Guests should be able to book and pay online for their scheduled time-slots, knowing capacity management ensures safe social distancing. Minimal contact between staff/guest/equipment is achievable with contactless card readers, no tokens/coins/tickets, and using the virtual game card in the Mobile Wallet for contactless game play, (reloading anytime, anywhere), redemption, etc. It’s easy, fast and efficient; good for the consumer and the operator (no manpower or loss of time).
Embed responded immediately, launching a range of invaluable initiatives to support customers in their road to recovery, focusing on low-touch experiences, embracing automation, leveraging technology and streamlining communication. These efforts culminated in the Embed COVID-
COVID-19 had on their businesses. Businesses have to adapt to a post-pandemic world and the new mindset of visitors. Consumers are worried about keeping their families COVID-free. They don’t want to touch cash and coins that have been touched by hundreds of strangers (and carry living germs and living virus for days) or wait in lines to make withdrawals or top up their game card. Innovation is crucial at this point. People are embracing contactless payment technology and getting used to paying that way, which was already happening before the pandemic, so consumer behaviour is permanently changing and will continue across the population.

hen the pandemic hit, family entertainment centres (FEC) were left reeling from the significant impact
19 Resource Center and COVID-19 Relief Act. A key element was the Mobile Wallet, Embed’s most recent award-winning innovation that I decided we would give away for free for one year to all FEC owners. To date, Embed is the only FEC business solutions provider to gain compliance approval from Google and Apple for its Mobile Wallet, and the only non-finance, banking and sponsorship brand to sit in consumers’ mobile wallets. To help operators boost uptake and adoption of the Mobile Wallet, Embed also offered a plug- and-play creative package of printed marketing materials to drive return visits, accelerate the industry’s recovery, while enabling check-in and tracing of all traffic in the event of a COVID-19 breakout.
Embed’s customers can attest on how they have thrived during the pandemic: One example of an operator, Ticket Time in
Queensland, Australia used Embed’s integrated system swhich can seamlessly handle new government-mandated procedures without impacting the customer experience. Plus, visitors to Ticket Time can easily reload their game cards and check their balances on Embed’s self-service kiosk. They can do so without queuing and without having to come face-to-face with staff, or handle potentially germ-ridden cash or cards (tickets or coins).
Embed has also recently brought its Mobile
Wallet technology to Scary Strokes in Waldorf, Maryland, USA. Now, Scary Strokes is able to offer safe, contactless gameplay and redemption options, helping to attract customers back following COVID-19. “It’s clever and very convenient; there is no need to visit a kiosk or a staff member. Guests can do everything from the comfort of their phone.” said Doug Roth, CEO of Scary Strokes.
Embed’s solutions such as the award-winning
smartTOUCH includes a customised message “Please Clean This Game After Use” further validates the pandemic’s impact on the family entertainment industry and its elevated cleaning protocols with stricter cleaning schedules. This can be seen at Gamestate in Netherlands. “One of the most valuable features Fun Land takes advantage of is the RFID wristbands from Embed. The wristbands set us apart from the pack because no one is utilising this technology like Fun Land. After we got the system up and running, we saw a huge uptick in people coming to the park and their ability to use the system,” said Clint Novak, general manager, Fun Land of Fredericksburg.
