François Danhaive, head of projects and engineering at Alterface was the ride site manager, supervising all construction work between their own interactivity and ride engineers, expert partners ETF Ride Systems for the trackless vehicles, Jora Vision for the decor and props, Barco for monitors and projection systems, and many other suppliers for lighting, curtains, painting etc.

shooting game stations, mobile games, emoji/meme/gif, in combination or not with the erratic concept.” Jean Hervé Madec, creative director at Compagnie des Alpes, which owns Walibi Belgium comments: “The popcorn concept Alterface proposed immediately appealed to us. It’s an easy concept and story to understand for younger and older visitors.” Their expressions and gags are universal so language is not barrier either, he says. The quality of the IP and merchandise that springs from it is on a par with all of the top Hollywood blockbusters, leading to Park World to ask, when is the movie out…..?

Challenges of construction For Popcorn Revenge the park was limited to the existing infrastructure. The team had to fit the attraction into a building of 800m2

and transform a restaurant into a queue line. A lot of attention went into the details - “both the physical side and JUNE 2019

the digital content,” says Parent. The music and lighting in each movie theatre are adjusted to the characters and the theming. For example, in the pirate room, the carpet is decorated with small skulls. “Our request to Alterface was to create an exciting cinema

world with an innovative touch in terms of ride experience. They have met and even exceeded these expectations - there is currently no such attraction on the market in any other park,” says Parent proudly. “The quality of image rendering and projection is top, surprising the guests throughout the ride. This obviously involved some technical challenges during the build-up, such as sound control from one scene to another as the movie theatres are adjacent. The entire erratic set-up was a big challenge: how to orchestrate the ‘ballet of vehicles which do not always follow the same route….but we managed to get it all right and work smoothly together with Alterface teams and partners.”
