The TEA and AECOM released the annual Theme Index at the end of May, looking at attendance across the global themed entertainment industry. According to the report, the industry resumed its historic pace of growth in 2017 after a fairly flat 2016, with the top 25 theme parks expanding their volume by 4.7%. “On the whole, 2017 reflected a return to healthy growth with significant capital expenditures in the industry, both in traditional attractions, attractionadjacent hotels, and new, IP-branded indoor attractions. With stabilized global economies, and significant planning occurring now for future investment, prospects look good for the industry in the short- to mid-term.” Keep an eye out for our report– on-the-report in the July issue. This issue of Park World, meanwhile, bears the fruits of a number of recent press trips, showcasing the on-going investment and expansion of parks across the globe. Danish amusement park Tivoli celebrates its 175th

anniversary this year, making it the second oldest amusement park in the world. I took a trip to Copenhagen in May to visit this beautiful park, discovering its singular history and its celebratory plans – see page 31. Unfortunately new Mondial spinning ride Tik Tak was not yet open… I suppose I’ll just have to go back. On Park World’s trip to Legendia park in Katowice,

Poland earlier this year, we saw the evidence of its transformation from amusement park to theme park over the past few years, retrofitting existing rides and creating themed areas with the help of Jora Vision. On page 41, Hannah Hart takes a closer look at brand new interactive dark ride Basyliszek, created by Alterface in partnership with Jora Vision and ETF Rides. And on page 43, we take a look at the rides and

attractions on offer at Shinhwa Theme Park, a part of new multibillion-dollar leisure and entertainment resort Jeju Shinhwa World, on the island of Jeju in Korea. Happy reading!
