jurs Sommerland, Denmark, has continued its path to become the European showroom for Intamin roller coasters. Another European and world’s first


roller coaster has debuted at the family owned park in the form of a family suspended coaster, or as Djurs classify it, a family suspended THRILL coaster. At 825m long and with a top speed of 85km/h DrageKongen, or Dragon King in


English, is Europe’s fastest and longest family suspended coaster and the first of its type from Intamin. It joins Piraten, Europe’s only MegaLite and Juvelen, the world’s first Intamin quad bike dual launch coaster. It’s situated just to the left of the park entrance replacing a


play area and as soon as you arrive in the car park you can’t fail to see the new monster looming over the park. As you’d expect from Djurs Sommerland, they have extensively themed the area with landscaping, scenery and vast swathes of bamboo to create an oriental feel to good effect. The queue line weaves around and under the path of


DrageKongen offering great views of the family thrills ahead. But inside, and out of sight there’s a secret which few will expect until they’re in the dragons claws. The secret? DrageKongen has both a traditional lift hill and a launch. Cleverly the queue line stops just short of the station, preventing waiting guests from seeing the start of the ride. Once boarded with the overhead lap bar restraints checked, the train is unexpectedly fired out of the station via a tyre drive launch. An indoor airtime hill followed by a helix that dives into a pit with sound effects and coloured lighting gets the ride off to an exciting start that you don’t see coming. Exiting the building, with waiting onlookers unaware they


haven’t seen the real start of the ride, the train climbs the tyre driven 30m lift hill. The first drop twists 90 degrees and dives underground through a smoke filled tunnel, rising up to a horseshoe turn that swoops over the covered walkway that
