Ride Profile

Pegase

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to take a ride through the great marvels of the ancient Greek and Roman Empire on board a winged horse powered train? Now, thanks to Pégase Express, the new family roller coaster from the German manufacturer Gerstlauer at Parc Astérix you can experience just that.

takes flight! A

s with all train rides, this one starts at the train station, to be precise, the Montparnassos station, located in the Greek area of the park, just next to

the other roller coaster Le Vol D'Icare. In front of the building, guests are welcomed by a five

metre tall golden statue of Pegasus himself, which represents the leading car and propulsion system of the train. Just like all attractions at Parc Astérix, this one has very detailed and elaborate theming but keeps the typical humour that you find in Astérix comic books. This means that along the queue line there are all sorts of things that you might find in a real train station but transported into the ancient Greece world with a funny twist. For example, there are ticketing booths, a vending machine that sells potion bottles and, of course the ticket validating machine where guests can validate their hands instead of the tickets. There is even, near the exit, a photo booth occupied by what looks like a Roman soldier! As guests reach the boarding area, before getting on one

of the four trains they can chose whether to leave the bags inside automatic containers or just bring them on-board with them. The ten cars trains, which can accommodate twenty

passengers have a very simple design compared to the elaborate level of theming all around, with just a simple image of two wings on the front car to remind you of the winged horse propulsion system. The restraint system is provided by very comfortable single lap bars allowing a minimum height restriction of just one meter. Once all passengers are properly seated and lap bars

checked, the real fun can finally begin. Overall the ride experience is very similar to another product from Gerstlauer, which is the Firechaser Express at Dollywood. Just like the sister ride, Pégase Express starts with a quick tire propelled launch right out of the station into a small hill and a series of turns leading into the first lift hill. Once at the top, after a gentle turn to the left, the train plunges down the main drop followed by a camelback over the Romos at Rapidus water ride. This is followed by another hill which takes riders out of the park area and around the parking edge. This section of the ride contains a wide variety of fast direction changes, gentle airtime hills, a tunnel and another additional theming element which make for some nice near miss effects. After all this excitement, a short moment of rest is offered by the second lift hill which is reached still at full speed.
