One of the strange things about working in print publication is that you’re always at least a month in the future mentally. I might be living in what my diary calls “August” but I’m constantly talking about “September” (and being asked for details about “October”!) I personally hate it when shops start to push Christmas promotions

while it’s still the middle of summer, but at this rate I’ll be reaching for my Santa socks before I even get to Las Vegas! What this always brings home to me is how fast the year fl ies by and how easy it is to just coast from month to month ticking jobs off the list and getting a scant few minutes of that “done!” feeling before the next issue hoves into view (I’m even starting to think about which shirts to wear at the next ICE show). I’m not saying we all have to go outside and feel the grass between our toes, but you know… make sure you’re taking regular screen breaks.

As you’ve probably gathered from the above, I haven’t got anything valid to say this month but still feel obliged to make words come out of my fi ngers. I’m excited to see what our industry is promising for G2E (and VERY excited to actually be attending) and am also chuffed to acknowledge one of our stalwart contributors – Sharron Harris – enjoying her 30th year writing for us (WOW!) To thank her for her long service I gave her even more pages to write this month (you’re welcome, Sharon!) so go check out her overview of Sports Betting in the USA; it’s crazy just how much has happened in such a relatively short time (which is more than can be said for my Editor’s Comment this month).

I’m very sorry. TTFN.
