Mpumalanga Gaming Regulator Appointed to IAGR Statistics Advisory
Committee Carla Bastos, Acting-CEO of the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER), the body tasked with regulating gaming in the province, has been appointed to the IAGR Statistics Advisory Committee. Along with a new Chair for the committe a number of new members have also been appointed. Kasper Vestergaard Frandsen has been appointed as Chair of the IAGR Statistics Advisory Committee. IAGR’s Statistics Advisory Committee has an
overarching aim to positively inform the gaming regulatory sector of the most pressing issues affecting our community. IAGR also welcomed
new members to the IAGR Statistics Advisory Committee reflecting the truly global nature of the expertise we bring to bear: • Andrew O’Brien (Australian Communications and Media Authority)
• Toru Kajiwara (Japan Casino Regulatory Commission)
Following the fire that gutted large parts of the Mmabatho Palms Casino last year, Peermont Group plans to transfer its gambling licence from the Mahikeng-based Mmabatho Palms Hotel and Casino, to Rustenburg. Peermont has already applied to the North
West Board for its gambling business to be transferred. In September last year part of the flagship Mmabatho Palms Hotel was destroyed by a fire. It has now emerged that the casino may never operate in Mahikeng again. The Peermont Group confirmed that it applied for its gambling licence to be transferred from the Mmabatho Palms Hotel in Mahikeng – to a destination near the Waterfall

Mall in Rustenburg. However, the group says it will continue with conference, food and beverage operations at Mmabatho Palms. “The staff employed at Mmabatho palms
will have the first right of refusal to positions available at the Waterfall hotel and casino. The staff members employed at Mmabatho Palms who do not wish to relocate to Rustenburg will be accommodated at the remaining operations of Mmabatho Palms as much as this is possible. The majority of the remaining vacant positions will be recruited for within Peermont and with Rustenburg,” spokesperson Nikki Evans said.
