www.casinointernational-online.com EDITOR’S COMMENT Managing Editor: Jon Bruford
Well, ICE is still on – thank goodness – but not in the form we all know and love, which is a damn shame, but also pretty understandable. What will be fascinating is how the show rebounds next year, and what form it takes. Hell, even what country it’s in. Elsewhere in the industry, SG has rebranded to become Light & Wonder, which is such a logical progression it blows my mind they didn’t do it sooner. I’m kidding, of course, and when I read the news I must confess I checked the date as it would have been a really excellent April Fool. But when you drill down into it, the company is making more of its experiential leanings, and since divesting itself of the lottery business, that is the very market they’re in – cross-platform gaming experiences. SG wasn’t cutting it as a brand name, and the company never fully leveraged any of the company names they absorbed over the years, so this makes as much sense as anything else. For anyone that hasn’t heard me plug this shamelessly yet, by the way, you can fi nd my podcast at www. thegamblingfi
les.com – be warned, it’s not under the CI banner and is very much my own thing. Well, mine and Fintan Costello’s. I think it’s fair to say it has ‘personality’. In other news, the fi rst iteration of the freshly-mutated Casino Awards is due to take place on the fi rst night of ICE and it promises to be a cracker, with most of the major operators in Europe in attendance. Be there or be square. Until the next time,
