IDVerse – New ID verification versing on Zero Bias AI
International Editor, Ricki Chavez-Munoz, speaks to IDVerse’s President, Bryan Smythe, as the company enters the fight to protect assets in this brave new universe with 99.99% reliability.
Bryan Smythe, President of Americas A
s world purchasing transactions move increasingly towards digitally accessible products, it’s essential that identity
verification is as effective as it possibly can be and that security networks provide close to inaccessible systems to protect clients and safeguard business assets. As the industry headed to G2E 2023, the gaming industry was smarting from some criminal work against leading local casinos some weeks earlier. Hackers had the better of the properties’ cybersecurity, breaching “some of its systems” and protecting data via a cinematic cyberattack with potential breach of clients’ personal data. The worst gaming industry nightmare ensued over the following days, costing millions of dollars to the properties affected.
Ricki Chavez-Munoz: Following the reports on losses by the casinos and more damagingly to their reputations as impregnable fortresses, would IDVerse systems have been able to stop such cyberattack? Bryan Smythe: “Recent ransomware incidents within the industry have targeted individuals with privileged access to identity management firms, often exploiting human vulnerabilities at various touchpoints, such as telecom service desks enabling SIM swaps or authorized employees possessing critical login credentials for company systems. “Fortunately, leveraging facial biometrics as a robust identity verification tool serves as a powerful defence mechanism. seamless and comprehensive onboarding process, facial biometrics acts as a reliable safeguard, significantly mitigating the risk of unauthorized access and subsequent ransomware attacks. The inherent superiority of facial biometrics over traditional password- based systems lies in its inherent resistance to replication or social engineering, offering a higher level of security and protection against potential breaches. By prioritizing stringent identity verification protocols, both telecom companies and gaming platforms can effectively fortify their defences against evolving security threats.”
RCM: When we set up this interview, I was impressed by the IDVerse claim of Zero Bias AI solution on ID verification. Can you expand on this? BS: “Utilizing our Zero Bias AI™ tested technology, we lead the charge in training deep neural network systems through generative AI, actively combating discrimination based on race, age, and gender.
“The inherent biases ingrained within AI systems designed for facial recognition underscore the need for a more inclusive approach. These systems, predominantly created by homogenous engineering teams and trained on inadequately representative data, often struggle to accurately identify individuals from diverse ethnicities. “At IDVerse, we take pride in harnessing deepfake technology for societal progress, prioritizing the creation of inclusive biometric and document verification solutions that cater to individuals of all skin colours, ages, and accessibility requirements. “Our approach involves training our system with a diverse array of faces, leveraging millions of deepfake personas to facilitate comprehensive learning. This commitment has enabled us to achieve a groundbreaking 99.99% accuracy in independent lab testing, setting a new standard in the industry.”
RCM: How long does it take to set up the IDVerse ID verification systems in a casino property, whether land-based casinos or remote betting and gambling? BS: “Casino properties can integrate quickly via a comprehensive suite of APIs and our cloud-hosted solution, taking anywhere from 2-6 weeks to accommodate simple to complex player identity verification and onboarding needs.”
RCM: Do you have any data available on applications fraud blocked by the use of IDVerse systems? BS: “IDVerse’s solutions have undergone NIST-accredited independent lab testing, demonstrating an accuracy rate exceeding 99.99%. In contrast, solutions with a 99% accuracy rate, when faced with 1,000 instances of deepfakes or synthetic IDs, would overlook 10 potential fraudsters, while a 99.99% solution would miss only one. Given the average financial loss of $3,000 per fraud incident, this translates to a notable 9-fold reduction in potential fraud losses, showcasing the substantial impact of IDVerse’s high- precision verification system.”
RCM: Finally, Bryan, would you say that IDVerse’s cutting-edge technology is a must for land-based or remote betting and gambling businesses? BS: “IDVerse’s generative AI technology is crucial for land-based or remote betting and gambling businesses, not only for its robust identity verification capabilities but also for its commitment to fighting AI bias. By integrating IDVerse’s advanced de-biasing techniques into the identity verification process, gambling businesses can welcome all players into a fair and inclusive gaming environment, mitigating the risks of discriminatory practices and promoting responsible gambling behaviour among diverse user demographics.”
