black and grey. We decided to create a building with colour, and reaction has been really great; people love it. The project was massive, but we carved the object so the building integrates into its context. The gardens we have on the upper floors, the notch allows it to create a great dialogue with the low-light building across the street; the way we have carved the towers, their size and shape, means they can establish a pleasant dialogue with the neighbours so that works as well. On top of the building is an amazing
courtyard with exterior paths, and where the complex will organise events. PARQ complements the stadium
nextdoor too, so before any games in the stadium, visitors can go inside, snack, play games; the building is well appreciated. It is unique in its shape but in the same way, it is sensual but understated.
CI: It’s classy, not slutty? MF: Exactly.
CI: When you were designing the building, the movement of people is paramount; did you have to consider anything with a casino being part of the complex? MF: Of course, you have to ensure security. All around the stadium is a concourse, elevated from the street that our complex is on. So we needed to somehow connect that concourse to the main entrance located on the street, all the way through the building. And we have to make sure the casino is accessible if they have special events, but also for it to be more discreet when needed. It’s a very flexible design, I think, very welcoming.
