INDUSTRY UPDATE THE BMA COLUMN
Bathroom Academy offers essential training opportunities
T
raining is always a hot topic in the KBB sector and there is much debate in our fragmented industry on how best to work together to improve the provision and take up of training.
The market that we operate in is changing faster than ever, with new smart technology, increasingly savvy consumers and the threat of a post Brexit skills shortage looming, it is more important than ever that we give more attention to how to upskill the workforce and raise industry standards.
As the voice of the bathroom industry, the BMA actively supports education within the sector and offers learning opportunities and skills development for individuals and organisations via the Bathroom Academy.
The Academy is open to all and there is something for everyone, whatever time or training budget they have available. There are a series of
essential guides, which are mostly free to download. These are relevant to those that are new to the trade and experienced professionals. They are regularly updated with the very latest information and industry developments and essential reading for all new entrants into the industry. The guides form the basis of the Certificate in Bathroom Studies; this is awarded on completion of a workbook, an on-line test and a written submission.
Business courses for manufacturers are held at the BMA headquarters in Newcastle- under- Lyme or at the company’s own base and run in conjunction with our training partner Strategic Professionals. Content is wide ranging and covers sales, marketing, management, leadership, customer service and IT.
Manufacturer’s product training is also available via the Bathroom Academy website.
In a competitive market, training can help businesses gain an advantage and help them retain their most valuable key asset, people. Visit

Carron Phoenix retailers to host ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ for Macmillan
arron Phoenix is once again supporting MacMillan Cancer Support by helping their independent retailers to take part in the charity’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in September.
C
For the second year in a row, Carron Phoenix is inviting retailers across the country to host coffee mornings on either Friday 28 or Saturday 29 September and providing them with all the resources to do so free of charge.
Retailers will receive two dozen artisan-baked chocolate brownies to sell, auction or serve with a cuppa in addition to a free marketing pack to help them promote the event locally and encourage footfall into their showrooms. The pack includes A3 display posters, a template press release, POS tent cards and customer invitations.
The retailer who raises the most for Macmillan will win a £500 credit voucher which they can spend on any Carron Phoenix products through their preferred distributor.
Retailers can sign up to participate in the nationwide event by the closing date of Thursday 14 September by logging on to the Carron Phoenix website:

Carron Phoenix Brand Manager Larah Kuziw says: “Social events are a great way to engage with customers and the local community. We were so pleased with the event last year and our retailers told us they were keen to get the kettle on again to fundraise.”
