All quiet on the bathroom front
As we look ahead to the coming year, sustainability will undoubtedly be a major focus within our industry. However, one bathroom design topic that might not be spoken about as much is noise reduction. The sound of water draining in the bathroom might not be an obvious consideration during installation, but it certainly will be for the occupants.
Noisy drainage can have a significant impact on the overall comfort and relaxation of the bathroom. There are several ways to minimise noise, from using sound-absorbing materials like Styrofoam insulation to disconnecting the drain body from the floor concrete slab with the help of rubber elements being integrated in the fixing system. This all helps to create that much desired tranquil ‘spa-like’ experience - another trend we’ll be seeing more of in 2023.

Supply chain issues
With such a large proportion of the population bound to their homes during the Covid-19 pandemic, more time and resource was redirected to kitchen and bathroom renovations, which subsequently increased the demand for plumbing products.
Although this brought a welcome spike in sales, the industry soon faced supply chain issues. The delays in shipping stock and difficulties in obtaining components from international territories led to a shortage of products, making it challenging to meet market demand.
Brexit further exacerbated the situation, adding to the paperwork and export issues and causing ongoing disruptions.
The shortage of print circuit boards, including those used in shower pumps, box showers, and electrical showers, is likely to continue until production and distribution can fulfil the outstanding orders.
To overcome these hurdles, the plumbing industry must adapt to supply chain challenges by closely monitoring developments in the market. Collaboration with suppliers and customers, as well as sourcing British-made products, will be beneficial in finding innovative solutions to these issues for the year ahead.
