MIRRORS & MIRRORED CABINETS

Mirrors as a reflection of style and substance in the bathroom

athroom mirrors are a staple of any home, of course, but they have had a bit of a reset over the last few years. Once a very functional, barely noticeable part of the bathroom, albeit an important one, mirrors were more than likely stuck on the inside of a cabinet, protruding from the wall on an unsightly arm, or at best a simple design above a vanity. Despite their practical importance, the bathroom mirror has often been more of an afterthought than an essential design element.

However, that has all changed and today bathroom mirrors are often the focal point of the space. They aren’t just about functionality but are now often used to add shape and style to the bathroom, using clever techniques to expand the space and create a hotel vibe.

Round bathroom mirrors and those with curved edges have been on trend over the last

couple of years. Classic and chic, this shapely look has quickly become a staple in modern bathrooms and ensuites. It can easily lift the space and offers a softer, more relaxing feel than trends gone by. This is echoed of course in the latest looks for sanitaryware and furniture. Mirrors in a matching style complete the picture and create a cohesive look. A trend to look out for in 2023 is the move towards framed bathroom mirrors, influence by the Japandi and Scandinavian-inspired interiors market. They bring a minimalist touch to modern spaces and are set to grow in popularity as the year goes on.

Style points aside and mirrors still provide an important functional element to the bathroom’s design too. But this has evolved too, just as technology in the home has, to include integrated LED lighting, contact-free controls, demister pads and even Bluetooth connectivity in some instances. – Ben Bryden, Sales and Marketing Director, RAK Ceramics UK
