Surface trends for outstanding designs A
s per tradition, the new year came with its own trends for kitchen and bathroom surfaces – some of which we are already familiar with, and other that made a comeback from past years. These will inform designers and consumers’ choice in 2023 and help them craft the most beautiful spaces in residential, commercial and hospitality settings.
Bringing the outside inside

Soothing, earth-toned colours, including greens, grey and browns, made a comeback in our homes and offices, and their success doesn’t rely solely on aesthetic preferences. The concept of “neuroaesthetic spaces” within interior design is a growing matter, with recent studies highlighting a correlation between mental health and nature in interiors. Worksurfaces are not exempt from this trend, as designers are showing more and more interest in nature-inspired options with intricate veining, minerals and natural tactility.
Black is the new black
Black has undoubtedly made a grand return to our interiors. Once regarded as a colour that made rooms dark and oppressive, the “queen of colours” is now living a new life as leading designers are choosing to colour-blocking entire rooms, from walls and ceilings to surfaces and accessories. Bathroom and kitchen countertops in dark shades, paired with matte black sinks and taps and faucets for a holistic monochrome concept - or with brass or copper for an industrial look, will immediately bring a dramatic feeling to a space.
Sustainability and circularity are a necessity The industry is continuing to recognise the importance of delivering long-lasting products and solutions that can minimise their long-term impact on the environment. The art of repairing and repurposing, one that the older generations are familiar with, is back on trend and surfaces which are made to last and easy to repair can be brought back to life after extensive use.
